ROCORI City Update * July 3, 2008

*QUICKTIME *Phone Folks, it’s that time of year again. The weather is gorgeous and the boat’s been out of storage now for the last month. As the family and friends come into our gorgeous State, it’s important to remember a few safety items. In this story, our three city administrators discuss some issues regarding the 4th of July and what is going on in the ROCORI area. The subject that came up most in this story is the use of common sense. When on the lake or just out shooting some bottle rockets, please use good judgment and common sense. This is a time to celebrate our independence, not make a trip to the emergency room. DigElog ROCORI would like to wish everyone out there a safe and happy 4th of July. ************************************ Consumer Fireworks Information The sale, possession and use of certain non-explosive and non-aerial consumer fireworks is now permitted in Minnesota. Examples of legal fireworks include items such as sparklers, cones and tubes that emit sparks, and novelty items like snakes, and party poppers. A more detailed list is available at the link below. Consumer fireworks may not be used on public property (i.e. parks, roads, alleys, schools, government property, etc.). Purchasers of consumer fireworks must be at least 18 years old and retailers are required to check photo identification of purchasers before selling these products. Explosive and aerial fireworks are prohibited for public sale, possession and use. Prohibited fireworks include firecrackers, bottle rockets, missiles, roman candles, mortars and shells. Consumer Fireworks Fact Sheets, Fireworks Safety, Fireworks Recalls ************************************ VIEWER COMMENTS: Hi Duane - State law does not prohibit the use of legal fireworks within city limits. However state law also does not restrict local ordinances from doing so. I would recommend contacting city hall. if they have no ordinance you are allowed to use the fireworks within the city. If there is an ordinance you would have to comply within the specifics of the ordinance. Happy 4th. Representative Larry Hosch ***************** Duane, I'm not sure of Cold Spring's code... but generally use of fireworks is restricted in city limits... at least the 'illegal' types. Sparklers, snakes and party poppers... go to town with. I doubt anyone will care unless we are in a very dry spell where a fire hazard may be an issue. Dan Richmond City Administrator

St. John's Boys' Choir Leaves For Czech Republic

*QUICKTIME *Phone The SJBC Concert Choir departed on Friday, June 27 for the Czech Republic where they will represent the United States and the state of Minnesota at the International Boys' and Men's Choral Festival in Hradec Králové and Prague. The boys will travel throughout various regions of the country, exploring the nation's architecture, history and culture. This marks the choirs second trip to the Czech Republic. In this video you'll join the boys and their parents as they say final farewells the day of their departure. The concert tour this year is being lead by the Boys' Choir new concert choir director André-Louis Heywood. André Heywood joined the St. John's Boys' Choir staff a year ago. He has a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Don Wright Faculty of Music of the University of Western Ontario. Another special feature of this video story is a short interview with Br. Paul Richards as he reflects back on the very first trip the Boys' Choir took to Europe. It was for 21 days and included a combination of about 30 boys and numerous parent chaperones. This years tour will include 13 days in the Czech Republic. Friday, June 27 Sunday, June 29 The day began by attending mass at the Church of St. Vitus. The boys were *excellent*, being very attentive even though they didn't understand a single word. They also tried singing along with some of the Czech hymns. They then spent some time rehearsing in the lobby of the hostel, drawing a number of visitors passing by on the street. After lunch was some time for shopping followed by a tour of the town on wood rafts. The boys had a free evening for socialization. Monday, June 30 The boys started the day with a silent breakfast (a tribute to Br. Paul pehaps?) and then set off to Hradec Králové, the site of the Festival. They enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Duran restaurant and then headed into their venue rehearsal at Holy Spirit Cathedral, a 700-year old church in the Old Town square. The boys had a great rehearsal and then spent some time settling into their dorms and having dinner. They then attended the opening ceremonies of the festival, featuring a cameo performance by each choir. The boys were particularly impressed with Boni Pueri, the host choir, and with the American Boychoir who they will sing with in November. Tomorrow begin the long days of festival rehearsals!

ROCORI Baseball vs St. Cloud Cathedral
from DigElogROCORI on June 27, 2008

*QUICKTIME *Phone After beating the Foley Falcons in ten innings, the Spartans were faced with the difficult challenge of taking on a fresh St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders team. To make matters worse, the Crusaders won the state tournament last year and were returning with nearly all of their starting players. The Spartans came out aggressive on the bases and stuck to solid fundamental baseball. They kept the score close until the late innings. It would once again be Brian Hansen who would get a clutch hit late in the game to give the Spartans the lead. Watch all of the highlights of this game to see how the Spartans were able to knock off the defending state champs. ***************************************** Special thanks to Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union who sponsored this story. ROCORI City Update * June 25, 2008

*QUICKTIME *Phone In this version of the ROCORI Update, Rena Weber tells us about some complaints that the city has received in regards to Eagle Park. The first subject she addresses relates to an editorial that suggested there were no more eagles in Eagle Park. This is completely false, and just last week, DigElog ROCORI witnessed multiple eagles flying over the park. In fact, you can see them in this story! Another issue that the city has received complaints about is the growth of weeds in the Eagle Park prairie. The city asks that you please be patient with the land restoration project and that this issue will be taken care of. Lastly, for those folks that will be in town for the 4th of July, there will be fireworks on both the 3rd and 4th over Pleasant Lake. EAGLE'S NEST IN EAGLE PARK, ROCKVILLE, MN In this story, Larry Lahr has an important announcement about severe weather. The first part of his announcement should provide reassurance to the citizens of Cold Spring because the city has an excellent team of severe weather spotters that are called upon in case of emergency. The second portion of Larry’s message is equally, if not more important and it relates to the severe weather sirens. These sirens are to alert those that are OUTSIDE during severe weather and should NOT be relied upon if you are inside. If you are in your home when severe weather begins to roll into Cold Spring, please tune in to your radio, television or computer for details regarding the storm. LOCAL SPOTTERS WATCH FOR HAZARDOUS WEATHER Lastly, Dan Coughlin has a brief update about the water ban that is still in effect for the city of Richmond. He asks that citizens please continue to conserve water whenever possible for about another two weeks. After that, the ban should be lifted, but until then tune in to DigElog ROCORI for all of your ROCORI area news. ***********************THIS STORY IS SPONSORED BY...*************************** Click Here To Find Out More About The First National Bank Of Cold Spring

*QUICKTIME *Phone Although school is out and the baseball season is over, DigElog ROCORI has all of the highlights from the ROCORI baseball season. In the opening round of the section tournament, the Spartans took on the Foley Falcons. As usual, the Spartans looked for a solid performance from senior pitcher Luke Vossen, and as usual he delivered. In this video, you’ll see part one of a two-part story, as this game went into extra innings. The Spartans were up against a dominant lefty from Foley, and it took exceptional pitching to simply keep them in the game. Stay tuned to DigElog ROCORI to see the rest of the highlights from this thrilling game!

*QUICKTIME *Phone In this version of the “ROCORI Update,” you’ll hear from the three city administrators in the Land of ROCORI. In the first segment, Rena Weber tells us about the finishing stages of the Broadway construction project. She also reminds us that if the parking lots of various Rockville public properties are full, please do not park in adjacent residential areas. If the lot is full, you must find parking in designated public parking areas. Larry Lahr tells us about the importance of keeping trees and shrubs properly groomed above city boulevards. It is the homeowners’ responsibilities to make sure that signs are not covered and that commercial trucks are able to pass under hanging branches. Also, if you know a neighbor that may not realize their trees are becoming an issue, please feel free to politely remind them. The city would appreciate as much help as possible on this matter. Lastly, if you have large or hard to reach branches, please contact an arborist to come help take any difficult branches off of your property. In the final installment of the city update, Richmond City Administrator Dan Coughlin asks that the citizens of Richmond be patient in regards to the new water system. There will be more information coming in your next city water bill. He also reminds us that this week the city will be going out on their nuisance inspections so if you have not taken care of some of the junk or debris in your yard, now would be a good time. Lastly, there will be an informational meeting at the Richmond Civic arena on June 19, 2008 to discuss the Main Street construction project. Thanks to all the citizens of each community for tuning in and enjoy the beautiful summer weather.
