Video: Bush pushes for Mideast peace deal in Israel from Clipsyndicate main feed on May 15, 2008 3 views / likes
Hello and welcome to a UPI weekly White House wrap-up. This week, President Bush was warmly welcomed in Israel by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Bush and the First Lady paid a visit there to celebrate the country's 60th anniversary and try to advance the Mideast peace process. The President says he hopes to reach a framework for a peace agreement by the end of the year. The U.S. is offering China half a million dollars to help with earthquake relief efforts. Bush spoke to China's president earlier this week to offer his condolences and assistance. The White House says the money is an initial contribution, and the U.S. will consider additional funding when needs become evident. Congress is defying President Bush on his strategic petroleum oil reserve. This week, lawmakers voted to stop filling the reserve in an effort to alleviate increasing gas prices., but Bush is expected to veto the final bill. The President opposes the measure because he says limiting supplies could threaten national security. If deliveries to the reserve are suspended, analysts say people would save about 4 to 5 cents a gallon. That's all for now. Thanks for watching, and see you next week for another White House wrap-up.

AND YOU MAY BE SURPRISED TO HEAR WHAT SHE DOES FOR THE D-A. JOE VIGIL LIVE IN SOUTHEAST ALBUQUERQUE WITH MORE. THIS ALL WENT DOWN IN THIS APARTMENT COMPLEX PARKING LOT LAST NIGHT...ACCORDING TO A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT. NOT ONLY ARE PEOPLE SURPRISED BECAUSE THE SUSPECT WORKS FOR THE D-A'S OFFICE---BUT SHE WORKS THERE AS A VICTIMS ADVOCATE. WE'RE TOLD CHARMAINE TAFOYA CONSOLES CRIME VICTIMS AND GUIDES THEM THROUGH THE COURT PROCESS. BUT COURT DOCUMENTS SAY TAFOYA DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR A VICTIM LAST NIGHT---ONE SHE'S ACCUSED OF HITTING WITH HER CAR DOOR. THE COMPLAINT SAYS AFTER KNOCKING THE PERSON TO THE PAVEMENT TAFOYA GOT OUT OF HER CAR--NOT TO HELP THE WOMAN--BUT TO RUN. A SHORT TIME LATER POLICE FOUND TAFOYA IN AN APARTMENT SAYING SHE SMELLED OF BOOZE, HAD BLOODSHOT WATERY EYES AND COULDN'T SPEAK VERY WELL. ONE RESIDENT WAS MORE THAN SURPRISED TO HEAR WHAT TAFOYA DOES FOR THE BERNALILLO COUNTY D-A'S OFFICE. 'That's actually shocking more than surprise.''That's contradicting her work and her job.''When you see someone who works in the court system get arrested for a crime they commonly see you got to wonder why they aren't getting the message. Evidently she didn't get the message.' THE COMPLAINT SAYS TAFOYA REFUSED TO TAKE AN ALCOHOL TEST--SO SHE AUTOMATICALLY WAS CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED DWI. D-A KARI BRANDENBURG SAYS THERE ISN'T MUCH SHE CAN SAY TONIGHT ABOUT THE INCIDENT. BUT DID SAY EMPLOYEES IN HER OFFICE SHOULD BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD BECAUSE THEY'RE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT. WE WEREN'T ABLE TO TALK TO TAFOYA ---BECAUSE AT LAST CHECK SHE WAS STILL IN JAIL. HOWEVER IN THE CRIMINAL COMPLAINT SHE TOLD AN OFFICER SHE WAS NOT DRIVING HER CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. SHE'S BEEN PLACED ON LEAVE. A NEIGHBOR
