Burt Bacharach and Stevie Wonder (1973) from Bedazzled! on June 22, 2008 90 views
From Burt's 1973 TV Special Burt Bacharach: Opus No. 3 . Featuring Peter Ustinov as Ludwig van Beethoven. "I Know Everything" by Spike Priggen (Video) from Bedazzled! on June 18, 2008 69 views
I asked my friend Carey Burtt if he would be interested in helping me make a video for a song from my new CD. He came up with this idea about setting it to the Jim Jones story and made this video (using footage from the Jim Jones TV Movie Guyana Tragedy ) as kind of a live-action storyboard for a proposed music video that we would produce (with me in the Jim Jones role!). I decided that it would cost a fortune to make that video, but that his little storyboard video was pretty cool in and of itself. Scopitone: Barry Young "One Has My Name" from Bedazzled! on June 18, 2008 69 views
In a world of sleazy Scopitones this very well may be the sleaziest. You see, the one who has his name is his wife (not his daughter, thankfully, that would be TOO sleazy) and the one that has his heart is his GIRLFRIEND. Maybe I should have a category for Sleazy Scopitones. And one for Guys Who Sing Like Dean Martin which this would also fit right into. What's A Scopitone? The Ballad Of Richard Speck (Live, 1975) from Bedazzled! on June 16, 2008 66 views
From the Bun E's Basement Bootlegs Collection (I looked on the Cheap Trick site for them but I guess they're all sold out now). This is from the volume entitled Beertown '75 . Yes, I said '75. I always kinda figured that Cheap Trick were like a normal 70's rock band that heard Punk Rock and adapted (like the Only Ones), but I think this recording proves that Cheap Trick were exactly the same band before and after Punk Rock. This ended up on the 1st LP (if you've never heard the 1st LP you've never heard Cheap Trick-that's the one Nirvana ripped everything off of) as The Ballad Of TV Violence . UPDATE : Before someone quibbles with my Nirvana comment here's a quote …We sound just like Cheap Trick only the guitars are louder - Kurt Cobain, Rolling Stone magazine. Merv Griffin's Gravestone + "Have A Nice Trip".mp3 from Bedazzled! on May 28, 2008 102 views
I got an email from a buddy of mine that I thought my readers might get a kick out of. It’s been ages, Spike, but thought of you this afternoon while dragging a visiting Warner Bros. dignitary thru tiny Pierce Brothers Cemetery in Westwood for lunch. Yeah, a great and thoughtful host is what I am. Marilyn Monroe, Rodney Dangerfield, Buddy Rich, Natalie Wood all met with wide-eyed approval. But it was newest resident Merv who rocked his world And no Griffin-related email would be complete without a copy of his loopy, Anti-drug anthem “Have A Nice Trip”. Have A Nice Trip.mp3

MP3's: Tim Hardin - "It'll Never Happen Again" from Bedazzled! on May 28, 2008 96 views
I just picked up this new 2-CD Tim Hardin Collection Hang on to a Dream. I had a bunch of his LP's back when I still had a turntable set-up, but none of them had this song on them. It's haunting me, can't get it out of my head. And, like all his good songs, it's incredibly sad. At least it makes me kinda sad. But I like that in a song. Steinski - "What Does It All Mean?" 1983-2006 Retrospective from Bedazzled! on May 27, 2008 144 views
I just got my copy of this. If you're at all interested in hip-hop and/or turntablism you've gotta have it. Buy What Does It All Mean? 1983-2006 Retrospective on CD Buy What Does It All Mean? - 1983-2006 Retrospective as MP3's The Pay-off Mix .mp3 Lesson 2 (James Brown Mix) .mp3 Lesson 3 (History of Hip-Hop) .mp3 “Following “The Payoff Mix,” also known as “Lesson 1,” Steinski and Double Dee (as they dubbed themselves) assembled their second piece, “Lesson 2 (James Brown Mix)” – the second in their highly influential trio of hip-hop history lessons. A modern listener will recognize most of the samples in this one, with everyone from Pop Will Eat Itself to Missy Elliott copping them in the years since. “Lesson 3 (History of Hip Hop),” from 1986, rolls up jazz, funk, films and sound effects into a rowdy, insane collection of beats and chopped-up songs. These three mixes came to be known as “The Lessons,” and have been inspirational to countless bands since then, though the songs themselves have remained somewhat shadowy in great part due to the legal concerns. With literally a hundred samples or more each, getting clearance is probably impossible. These works of genius are living examples of the problems with existing copyright laws, and, since their release, have been more or less impossible to purchase. But that hasn’t stopped them from spreading and inspiring artists like Coldcut, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist.” – Dusted Magazine

Vintage TV Commercial: "Multi Pistol 09" from Bedazzled! on April 08, 2008 231 views
Wes Clark says: Topper's Multi-Pistol 09 Set (1965). The complexity, miniaturization and flexibility of this toy ensured constant service during my spy activities on the block. Video: Magazine "Definitive Gaze" on "Old Grey Whistle Test" 1979 from Bedazzled! on April 08, 2008 228 views
From the Wikipedia: Magazine was an English Post-punk group active between 1977 and 1981. The band was formed in Manchester by Howard Devoto after he left Buzzcocks in early 1977. In April 1977 he met guitarist John McGeoch and they began writing songs which would become the first Magazine material. They recruited Barry Adamson, Bob Dickinson and Martin Jackson to form the first line-up of the band, which signed to Virgin Records. Bob Dickinson left shortly after the release of the band's first single Shot by Both Sides and was replaced by Dave Formula. Shot by Both Sides , the chorus of which shared the same progression as the Buzzcocks' Lipstick, reached the top 50 in the UK singles chart. Its cover was an early example of the goth influence in punk. Magazine Definitive Gaze .mov (Quicktime) Magazine Definitive Gaze .m4v (iTunes) Magazine Definitive Gaze .flv (Embeddable Flash Player)
