Leah D'Emilio gets her sea legs on board the New Del Mar in today's deep sea fishing episode, where she learns the basics of sport fishing from fishing expert and New Del Mar deckhand, Victor. Leah also talks to Captain Danny Ericson about the problem of overfishing, how fishing regulations work, and using sonar to find shoals of fish. With her newfound skills, Leah manages to reel in a salmon grouper by the end of the shoot, which made for a tasty supper that evening. We went down to the Twiistup event in Santa Monica to speak to Steve Wiebe and Walter Day from the documentary movie, The King of Kong to find out why games that were made over two decades ago are still being played, and to get the scoop on Steve s Donkey Kong world record attempt. Thanks to an early screening of "The Dark Knight" courtesy of TechCrunch and MySpace, the Mahalo Daily crew was able to check out the film and get a feel for one of the most hyped movies in recent years. Spending a day as a Garbage Truck Man has always been a personal dream of Mahalo Daily co-host Lon Harris, a dream which he was able to fulfill, courtesy of the L.A. Bureau of Sanitation. Learning how to sail isn't hard if you're near water, since chances are there will be a sailing school near you. Our local school is the California Yacht Club, which sails with four-person Martin M242 boats every week. We met up with two members of the club, support boat specialist Mike George (he did the water shots for Baywatch for 13 years!), and Pease Glaser, a former sailor for the U.S. team. Since the toy hoop was invented by the ancient Egyptians in 1000 B.C., the hoop has moved in and out of vogue. The most modern variation on the simple toy hoop is Hooping, an artistic dance interpretation that has grown in popularity since popping up in studios as a way of working out in the 90s. Hoopadelic is one such studio, and we went over there to meet the owner Catherine Flournoy. She told us all about the studio, her passion for hooping, and hooping's health benefits. Puppetolio has several performances throughout the week, and also acts as a museum for Steve's extensive puppet collection. Today's show also features a special guest, Shel Israel.

At 1-800-AUTOPSY, they do more than dissect dead bodies: based in downtown LA, this company has diversified its business into renting out props for medical scenes in TV shows like House and CSI. Not only that, but they make couches out of used coffins, with biohazard warnings and all.

At the local Maker Night in Santa Monica, Lon ran into the maker of a table designed to make your life difficult, a hellish Teletubby, and Mark Frauenfelder, editor of MAKE Magazine and the popular alt-culture blog BoingBoing.

Sumo came to Los Angeles this month, and we took a trip down to the LA Sports Memorial Arena to check it out. We spoke to a couple of Sumo Wrestlers and found out about the basic moves involved in Sumo Wrestling. Grab a beer and some rice, but don't take a nap until you've watched this video!
