I had to have some fun with it. at least to stay sane.

On Sunday March 9, I put together and moderated an amazing panel for SXSW: Interactive called Sexual Privacy Online and this is their video of our session -- it's near to impossible to find or link to on their site like all of the other videos (many sessions' media aren't even up yet). in case you were wanted to see more of my saturday night and what the animal and popcorn outfits were up to... when one of the horse-head girls ripped her mask up and screamed a grinning, "VIOLET BLUE!" and came after me with popcorn, I knew it was all over... the moment of chaos/darkness/silver pom-poms is one of the flag boys climbing on me. Yesterday Irina and I shot a GETV episode at the Fog City Cat Club's 2007 "Puttin' on the Ritz" show at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. Messing around with the new iMove, I took a few silly clips I shot last week at the Porn Palace's final happy hour (they're moving their film operations to the Armory) and made this short, dorky movie. All shot on the fly, so pardon the roughage!

I wrote this book called The Smart Girl's Guide to Porn, which has been a very popular topic -- so popular that Oprah (O) Magazine asked me to write a piece about women and porn for a recent issue, and has led to many other interesting experiences. Last weekend I was on the "Altporn, Demystified" panel for the Los Angeles Erotic Film Fest 2007; this is the first six minutes of the panel, with Eon McKai introducing Dana DeArmond, myself, Vena Virago and Octavio "Winkytiki". It includes the first question about how the alternative porn genre hit mainstream, and that it angered people for a variety of reasons (including having a strong female fan base).

I've been going to the same hairdresser -- Damian Sargent at Hair Play -- for years, and he's a really passionate stylist who is constantly going to classes and seminars, and he always has some fun new hair technology to share with me. I'm his most adventurous client, so i get to try all kinds of fun stuff. Recently, he wanted to try a new hair extension technique, and I was more than game. In this video, I go to Hair Play and spend time at the salon after hours with Damian and the salon owner Fritz Clay, and they do some really cool stuff to my hair. Hair Play is a San Francisco institution, and one of the only truly multicultural hair salons in the nation.

Good Vibes (my former employer) asked me to their warehouse a week ago to give me some toys they thought I might enjoy reviewing. I got some very funny video out of it, both there and when I got home, including a cameo or two by my very wary cat, Alex. Side info mentioned in the video: Japanese vibrators are extremely high quality; they have the best, most reliable motors. Most sensation creams (like clit 'tingling' creams) have arginine in them, which causes flare-ups for people with herpes (so Good Vibes made their own with *no* arginine). last night I got my hands on an about-to-be-released Sanyo Xacti E1 waterproof video camera (thanks Irina!), so I took it to the beach -- among other, ahem, places. I love it! wish I had one of my own -- except now it seems to be broken; it's still leaking water from somewhere and the menu button stopped responding about an hour ago. and the stills are just kind of okay (6.0 mp). hmmm. still, I had a blast playing with it. more info on the Xacti waterproof is here (Gizmodo).

I inserted some stills to replace the corrupt video and hope it's okay -- this took hours longer than it should have and was frustrating enough to make me want to take a little break from video, bleh!

two hours after getting the machines back to SRL, I had a glass of wine and put together footage of my Maker Faire experience. Tesla coils, goofiness with pallet jacks, an amazing timelapse video of the Faire from our booth (by Ian Williamson), and the short video I shot right after the machine demonstration. I don't have any show video because I was too busy running a machine, but it's a good moment nonetheless.

this is a huge file; the panel is 45 minutes long. the panel, for Fobres' leading industry advertising and marketing execs, was just over about an hour ago, included myself, Rich Jenkins (Editor-in-Chief MSN Money), Greg Bartalos (Asst. Managing Editor Yahoo! Finance), Robert Scoble and was moderated by Paul Maidment. this was shot from the back of the room and is pretty shaky, but if you're really interested in what we said (and the questions we got from *very* traditional media marketing execs), have a listen. some people in the audence expressed to me after they were disappointed that I was cut off at one point (as was I), but I think I got to say some good things. I mean, these people never have contact with people like me. so hopefully I got to represent my communites and our values. though it was a room where earlier attendees had expressed (seperately) that they think blogging is just a trend, and that user-generated content is a fad that will pass. I told them what I thought. these people self-disclosed that they have private planes. I just wish I'd had a chance to tell them where to put their pre-rolls. w3rd.
