They were in Honolulu for a concert at The Arts at Mark Garage, and also put on circuit bending workshops for the community. KITV Jamba Race from hawaii on Vimeo. You havent lived until youve humiliated yourself on live television. I had that unique opportunity this morning after doing my regular LOST commentary on KITV (the Honolulu ABC affiliate). The next segment was some fitness drills with current and former members of the UH Warriors football team, sponsored by Jamba Juice. I was enlisted to join the news team. The rest is television history. After the broadcast, of course, we all went upstairs to watch this clip, over and over and over again. In slow-motion, too. Apparently the morning deejays at KCCN even called to check if I was okay and to laugh heartily. Mahalo to Clayton for sending me the video to share with the world. Cast: hawaii

This trip was the first time Alex (age three) dared to go near the water, and by the end of the day he was wallowing in the surf. FIRST in Hawaii Robotics Competition from hawaii on Vimeo. Scenes from the last day of the FIRST in Hawaii Regional Robotics Competition. Students from schools across the state and the country gathered at the Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawaii to show off their math, science, and engineering skills in the form of ball playing robots. FIRST was founded by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen, who was in Honolulu for the event. Cast: hawaii

Hosted at Oceanit in downtown Honolulu, about 50 local technology and web gurus and fans came together to talk shop. Hawaii Democratic Caucus from hawaii on Vimeo. The Hawaii Democratic Caucus was held the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008. Prior to this year's hotly contested race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (who was born in Hawaii), the record turnout for the primary caucus was 4,800 people in 1988. Last night, over 36,000 people turned out to participate. Long lines everywhere, chaos and confusion in several locations, and handmade ballots had to suffice for many when the printed ones ran out. In the end, Obama received 76 percent of the Hawaii Democratic vote, versus Clinton's 24 percent. Cast: hawaii

As many as 20,000 participants of all ages run, walk, or roll 8.15 miles from downtown to Aloha Stadium to raise money for charity. Miller Street Memorial from hawaii on Vimeo. On Jan. 17, 2008, 23-month-old Cyrus Belt was killed when a neighbor threw him from a bridge onto the H-1 freeway. The city of Honolulu was united in grief over the horrific murder of the young boy, whose all-too-brief and troubled life has since become the focus of intense scrutiny and debate. While some people scramble to assign blame, hundreds of others have quietly convened every day at the spot where Cyrus Belt was killed. While some people are picking apart the people in his life, hundreds of strangers are simply moved by his tragic death, building a remarkable makeshift memorial of flowers, balloons, toys, letters, and other offerings. The sprawling shrine to the toddler at the Miller Street pedestrian bridge has grown so large, local transportation officials are struggling to balance Honolulu's need to mourn with the safety of nearby residents and passing motorists. The motley crew of shutterbugs traded technical tips and showed off their gear, taking pictures all the while. Anuenue Playground from hawaii on Vimeo. The cool, green town of Waimea (a.k.a. Kamuela) is home to what could be Hawaii's best playground. Anuenue Playground, an incredible wooden wonderland, was built and is maintained by the entire community. It's a must-visit stop as we pass through on our way from Hilo to Kapa'au. Given the subject matter, there's a lot of shaky handheld camera work here (including an ill-advised trip down a slide), which doesn't necessarily mix with the HD widescreen format. Kohala Jodo Mission from hawaii on Vimeo. One of the key stops on our regular pilgrimages to the Big Island is a drive out to Kapa'au, ancestral home of my mother's side of the family, to visit the graves of my maternal grandparents at the Kohala Jodo Mission. Near the very northern tip of Hawaii, tucked away on a hill behind the original King Kamehameha statue, this small temple is the epitome of peace and serenity. Cast: hawaii

North Shore 2007 from hawaii on Vimeo. I follow up my "North Shore for the Holidays" video (Dec. 26, 2006) with another visit a year later, this time using my Sanyo Xacti HD700 camera. It's a gray, chilly day and the beach is mostly empty, but hardcore surfers are still out on the waves. I'm still getting used to the camera and the editing software (Final Cut Express 4), but I'm liking it. Cast: hawaii
