MADtv Season 11: The eleventh season of MADtv aired from September 17, 2005, to May 20, 2006, with 22 episodes. Summary: Spencer Kayden, Ron Pederson, Aries Spears and Paul Vogt left at the end of season ten. Crista Flanagan, a featured player from season ten, was promoted to repertory status. One new repertory cast member, Arden Myrin, and two new featured cast members, Nicole Randall Johnson and Frank Caeti, were added to the cast. Stephnie Weir, who announced her departure at the end of season ten, agreed to film four new episodes' worth of material, which was spread throughout the first half of the season. Season eleven showcased one of the youngest casts ever: except for Michael McDonald and Stephnie Weir, all cast members were born in the 1970s and joined MADtv after the year 2000. The ethnic composition of the season eleven cast was also the most diverse in the show's history, with one Asian male, one Jewish male, three white males, two African-American males, two African-American females, and four white females. New sketches in season eleven included send-ups of FOX NFL Sunday, featuring Arden Myrin, Frank Caliendo, and Ike Barinholtz, and Ike and Bobby "On the Town" sketches, which were often shot on location. Nicole Parker introduced her first recurring character, The Disney Girl, a perky, happy young woman who tries to spread joy in city slums. (Parker won a Creative Arts Emmy for best lyrics in the Disney Girl sketch "Wonderfully Normal Day".) Daniele Gaither appeared as sociopath Yvonne Criddle and Crista Flanagan played Wendy Walker, a cooking show host who gets stressed out preparing meals. Myrin impersonated Hollywood's A-list celebrities such as Jillian Barberie in FOX NFL Sunday sketches; she also played nerdy craftsworkers Krista and Alana from Holly Meadow Estates. Johnson played characters like The Vancome Lady-like Ka-Son and impersonated celebrities like Star Jones, Queen Latifah, and Chris Rock. Frank Caeti impersonated Nick DiPaolo and former Dallas Cowboys coach-turned-FOX NFL Sunday-announcer Jimmy Johnson. A variety of special guests appeared from sitcoms (Jeff Garlin, Alyson Hannigan, Neil Patrick Harris, Jaime Pressly, Michael Rapaport), wrestling organizations (John Cena), and past seasons of MADtv (Jeff Probst, Pauly Shore, Fred Willard). Pamela Anderson, a celebrity lampooned by past cast members Mo Collins and Arden Myrin, made her first appearance on the sketch show's 250th episode. Opening montage: The title sequence opens with the MADtv logo appearing against the skyline of Los Angeles. The theme song, performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins and an announcer introduces each repertory cast member alphabetically, followed by the featured cast. The screen dissolves into three live-action clips of an individual cast member, then the three screens multiply until they fill the entire screen. Then all of the multiple clips flip over and displays another clip of the same cast member. As the multiple clips are reduced to one clip, a still color photo of the cast member is superimposed on the screen with his/her name appearing in caption over the photo. When the last cast member/guest is introduced, the music stops and the title sequence ends with the phrase "You are now watching MADtv." MADtv Season 10: The tenth season of MADtv aired from September 18, 2004, to May 21, 2005, with 23 episodes. Season summary: Season 9 ended with Mo Collins and Josh Meyers leaving the cast to pursue movie careers. Thus, last year's featured cast members Daniele Gaither, Keegan-Michael Key, Nicole Parker, and Jordan Peele were upgraded to repertory players. Key and Peele performed a repertory sketch as the "Man Up" crew whose job was to break jinxes. After the Ashlee Simpson lip-synching incident on Saturday Night Live, Nicole Parker would frequently appear in sketches as the pop singer. She also performed impersonations of Ellen DeGeneres, Kathy Griffin, and Britney Spears. The season was also the last for Ron Pederson and Paul Vogt. Pederson left due to budget cuts, while Paul Vogt departed to pursue a career on Broadway. Pederson entertained audiences with his Clay Aiken impersonations, and Vogt impersonated James Lipton on Inside the Actor's Studio and performed his recurring characters 2 Liter Beth (from the Fanta Girl commercials) and Dale Priskett (from The Lillian Verner Game Show sketches). Aries Spears, who had been a MADtv cast member since season 3, also left the show at the end of the season, tying Debra Wilson's then-record for longest tenure as a MADtv cast member (it would later be surpassed by Michael McDonald's nine years). Crista Flanagan joined the cast and was upgraded to repertory player the next season. Her repertoire included neurotic, struggling comedienne Luann Lockhart. Spencer Kayden made her first appearance in episode 15, but did not return the next season. Several former cast members appeared in season 10 episodes. Will Sasso reprised his role as Kenny Rogers in a reality show spoof. Mo Collins returned to portray the characters Doreen Larkin and Lorraine Swanson. Artie Lange also returned for two episodes. Alex Borstein reprised her role as Miss Swan and joined her Family Guy co-star Seth Green for another Brightling sketch. Notably, original cast members Nicole Sullivan and Debra Wilson appeared as some of their famous characters. Staff writer Steven Cragg appeared in three episodes starring in self-made short films. Opening montage: The title sequence begins with the MADtv logo appearing above the Los Angeles skyline. The theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins and each repertory cast member is introduced alphabetically, followed by the featured cast. When all cast members and guests are introduced, the music stops and the title sequence ends with the phrase "You are now watching MADtv." MADtv Season 9: The ninth season of MADtv aired from September 13, 2003, to May 22, 2004, with 25 episodes. Season summary: After Debra Wilson left the show at the end of last season, season nine was the first without any original cast members. Former featured players Ike Barinholtz, Josh Meyers, Ron Pederson, and Paul Vogt were upgraded to repertory status. (This would be Meyers' last season on MADtv, but he later appeared on the FOX sitcom That '70s Show.) Among season nine's new cast members was Daniele Gaither, a member of Groundlings who was trained by Michael McDonald before appearing on MADtv. (Gaither had previously appeared in season two as one of the Dolemite girls in a sketch about Bob Dole.) Her celebrity impersonations included Eve, La La, and Tyra Banks. The second new cast member was Nicole Parker, who became known for her impersonations of Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Ellen DeGeneres, Renée Zellweger, and Judy Garland (as the character Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz parodies). Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele joined the show as featured cast members. Peele created several hilarious characters (such as Funkenstein) and offbeat impersonations (such as Ja Rule). Both Key and Peele were promoted to repertory players the next season. New cast members Melissa Paull and Gillian Vigman (known for celebrity impersonations including Charlize Theron, Jennifer Aniston, and Pamela Anderson) were introduced in the ninth season, but left at season's end. Season nine included the show's 200th episode; several former cast members returned to mark the occasion. Orlando Jones appeared as Andre 3000 of Outkast performing a parody of "Hey, Ya." Nicole Sullivan reprised characters such as the Vancome Lady and impersonations of Meg Ryan and Judith from Literally. Alex Borstein made her first appearance since season seven and portrayed the beloved character Miss Swan. Will Sasso revived his famous impersonations of Bill Clinton and Kenny Rogers. Cast veteran Artie Lange (now a regular on The Howard Stern Show) recorded a monologue of his life since leaving Madtv. Former original cast member Phil LaMarr also appeared during season nine as character Kalvin Mudflap Clarke in the Real Mother****ing Talk sketch. Season nine introduced a recurring sketch, The Lillian Verner Game Show, with Paul Vogt playing flamboyant host Dale Priskett. This mock game show involved contestants vying for products that are spoofs of Lillian Vernon products. A recurring character, Gail Cinder (played by Stephnie Weir), would always return as the show's reigning champion. This sketch also featured MADtv writer Michael Hitchcock as the game show's announcer. The 7am Condo Report,a sketch about retired elderly people residing in a Florida condo, debuted; it featured Stephnie Weir as Muriel (a woman who suffers recurring strokes), Ron Pederson as Clifford (an angry, bitter old man in a wheelchair), Daniele Gaither as Jelly (an old African-American woman who is obsessed with her grandchildren and black culture), and Paul Vogt as the nurse. Other season highlights were appearances by Jessica Alba (Honey) as pop star Jessica Simpson, Tommy Davidson and Fred Willard as the hosts of Real Mother****ing Talk, boxers and WWE wrestlers (including Sugar Shane Mosley and Trish Stratus), professional skater Tony Hawk promoting his fictional restaurant, Jeff Probst hosting a celebrity edition of Survivor, Cedric the Entertainer (Johnson Family Vacation) co-starring in a blaxploitation version of Frankenstein as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, Frankie Muniz (Agent Cody Banks 2) returning in a sketch with Stephnie Weir's Dr. Kylie Johnson, Tom Bergeron in a parody of his show Hollywood Squares, and Groundlings alumnus Jennifer Coolidge. Mo Collins and Aries Spears announced that they would leave the show at the end of the ninth season. Opening montage: The title sequence begins with the MADtv logo appearing above the Los Angeles skyline. The theme song, performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins and each repertory cast member is introduced alphabetically, followed by the featured cast. The screen dissolves into three live-action clips of an individual cast member. The three screens multiply until they occupy the entire screen. A still photo of the cast member appears on the screen with a caption of his/her name superimposed on it. When all cast members and guests are introduced, the music stops and the title sequence ends with the phrase "You are now watching MADtv". MADtv Season 8 The eighth season of MADtv aired from September 14, 2002, to May 17, 2003, with 25 episodes. Season summary: Alex Borstein and Will Sasso left at the end of season seven, and new repertory players Ike Barinholtz, Simon Helberg, Josh Meyers, Christina Moore, Ron Pederson, and Paul Vogt were added. With Sasso gone from the cast, Frank Caliendo began playing George W. Bush. The comic also reprised his impersonations from past seasons, including Al Pacino, John Madden, and Robin Williams. Pederson played Dick Clark, Saddam Hussein, and Entertainment Tonight anchor Mark Steines. Vogt replaced Sasso as the James Lipton impersonator and impersonated classic sitcom stars, such as Edward Asner (The Mary Tyler Moore Show), Jackie Gleason (The Honeymooners), and Charlotte Rae (Diff'rent Strokes/The Facts Of Life). Like their counterparts Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz on Saturday Night Live, long-time pals Barinholtz and Meyers would frequently appear in sketches together and play off each other's chemistry. Separately, Barinholtz performed celebrity impersonations such as Joe Millionaire's Evan Marriott and Nick Nolte, while Meyers offered offbeat impersonations of Eminem, Matthew McConaughey, Owen Wilson, and some *NSYNC members. Jill Michelle Meleán performed impersonations of Drew Barrymore, but left MADtv at the end of the season, along with Moore and Helberg. In Living Color cast member Tommy Davidson returned to MADtv seven years after his first host appearance, this time playing a frequently featured character on Real Mother****ing Talk named Woogie Jones-Johnson. Another alumnus of the '90s sketch variety show, David Alan Grier, made an appearance as 60 Minutes anchor Ed Bradley. Comic actor Fred Willard appeared as recurring character Gene St. John, a movie critic who curses uncontrollably after each installment of Real Mother****ing Talk. That '70s Show Danny Masterson and Wilmer Valderamma returned for another parody of CHiPs with co-star Mila Kunis. For the first time since her departure in 2001, Nicole Sullivan appeared in the season finale as Mindy Tikvah, equally randy daughter of Michael McDonald's Marvin Tikvah. Opening montage: The title sequence begins with the MADtv logo appearing across a black screen. The theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins and each repertory cast member is introduced alphabetically, followed by the featured cast. Several split-screens appear showing live-action clips of cast members performing recurring characters. When the last cast member is introduced, the music stops and the title sequence ends with the phrase "You are now watching MADtv." Also joining the cast were Frank Caliendo, Kathryn Fiore, Jill Michelle Meleán and Bobby Lee (the first Asian-American player on MADtv). Bobby Lee frequently performed an impersonation of Connie Chung in drag. Andrew Daly appeared as Politically Incorrect host Bill Maher, interviewing cast members performing celebrity impersonations. Kathryn Fiore played neurotic teen Kate Williams and sorority sister Taylor Rosenblatt, and impersonated Barbara Pierce Bush. Jill Michelle Meleán performed a dead-on impersonation of Drew Barrymore. MADtv Season 3: The third season of MADtv aired from September 20, 1997, to May 16, 1998, with 25 episodes. Season summary: At the start of season three, one third of the original cast (Bryan Callen, Orlando Jones and Artie Lange) was replaced by newcomers Alex Borstein, Chris Hogan, Pat Kilbane, Lisa Kushell, Will Sasso, and Aries Spears. This was the last season to feature original cast members David Herman and Mary Scheer. Herman left to pursue a movie career, while Scheer left show business to become a full-time mother. This was the last season Fax Bahr and Adam Small would produce MADtv with Quincy Jones and David Salzman, although Barr and Small are still credited as "executive consultants". They went on to create Blue Collar TV, a similar sketch show that ran from 2004 to 2006. This was the last season Alfred E. Neuman and the bomb sequence was seen in the opening credits. However, Neuman's image still appeared on the MADtv stage in the fourth season. This was also the last season of Spy vs. Spy and Don Martin cartoon shorts, although Spy vs. Spy would be seen as part of the MADtv rerun segments in the fourth season. This was the first season in which MADtv showed "classics", i.e. reruns of episodes from previous seasons. Opening montage: The title sequence begins with several fingers pointing at a bomb. Then the bomb explodes and a picture of Alfred E. Neuman and a brain appears on a purple screen followed by the MADtv logo. The theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. Cast members are introduced alphabetically with their names appearing in caption over black-and-white still photos of them. MADtv Season 6: The sixth season of MADtv aired from October 7, 2000, to June 23, 2001, with 30 episodes. Season summary: MADtv began its sixth season with several cast changes. Pat Kilbane and Phil LaMarr left the show at the end of the fifth season. Returning repertory players Alex Borstein, Mo Collins, Michael McDonald, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Nicole Sullivan, and Debra Wilson were joined by Nelson Ascencio (a featured player from last season) and newcomer Christian Duguay. Andrew Daly, Dannah Feinglass, Jeff Richards, and Stephnie Weir were added as featured players. Cast members reprised many of their well-known characters and schticks. Alex Borstein and Will Sasso interviewed celebrities at red-carpet events, while Sasso performed celebrity impersonations of Robert De Niro and Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. Mo Collins appeared as Doreen Larkin, Trina Moss, Lorraine Swanson, and Liz Whitman-Goldfarb. Debra Wilson and Aries Spears appeared frequently as Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. The cast also added several new characters. Michael McDonald portrayed the Depressed Persian Tow Truck Man (later named Mofaz the next season), an irritable American immigrant who uses pop culture references to illustrate his family's shortcomings. Stephnie Weir played Dot Goddard, a seven-year-old girl whose intelligence pales next to her twin sister, Karen (Alex Borstein), a child genius who has written several books, found cures for diseases and planned NASA expeditions. Michael McDonald and Mo Collins played Dot's parents, who treasure Karen but despise Dot. Stephnie Weir also unveiled the characters Mrs. Campbell, a curious old lady, and Dr. Kylie, an immature, party-loving doctor. Season five guests Seth Green and Susan Sarandon returned periodically during season six. Christian Duguay impersonated Jay Leno, President George W. Bush, and *NSYNC member Joey Fatone. Duguay also played hyperactive preteen Edward and Loopgarue of "Loopgarue & Hulahoop," with Mo Collins as Hulahoop. Jeff Richards soon left MADtv but later appeared on Saturday Night Live, where he became well-known for his "Drunk Girl" character during his three-year tenure. Nelson Ascencio and Dannah Feinglass also left MADtv at the end of season six. Opening montage: The MADtv logo appears and the theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. Each member of the repertory cast, followed by the featured cast, is introduced alphabetically. The screen is divided into three live-action clips of each cast member performing recurring characters during the introductions.
