Conversation Continuity from evilvlog on March 06, 2008 147 views
its 16.29 here in CET, europe, denmark, and i just got up from sleeping most of today away, and i awake to a few linkedin requests, comments from mmeiser about the heidelberg couch sessions, which I liked doing,, but i want to recontextualize, bridge the words spoken in new ways, and lead it to something further. i want us to take a look at SPECIFIC ideas. to me, right now, these conversations feel like a myriad of voices, and all over it I hear my own voice, my own voice drowning the others, likewise I feel that my own concepts and ways of thinking getting into the way of really GETTING what they are saying, as in, realizing what this could mean, how we could move on from it.

A porcupine skin, Stiff with bad tanning, It must have ended somewhere. Stuffed horned owl Pompous Yellow eyed; Chuck-wills-widow on a biassed twig Sooted with dust. Piles of old magazines, Drawers of boy s letters And the line of love They must have ended somewhere. Yesterday s Tribune is gone Along with youth And the canoe that went to pieces on the beach The year of the big storm When the hotel burned down At Seney, Michigan. - Ernest Hemingway

Irrepressible badge from evilvlog on March 03, 2008 171 views
I found irrepressible.info which is an interesting Amnesty International project. In this screencast I show how I put it into the evilvlog sidebar: I like badges like this which dont just show whatever I just MighT have Done today, but points to a wider context. Now I will go place this badge on dltq.org

Madge on videoblogging world from evilvlog on November 26, 2007 225 views
Madge today has this post / mp3) which Richard Bluestein linked to on the VlogEurope list. This was Madge s response to this post by Jeffrey Taylor: Hi everyone – I ve included people beyond the list to make this conversation as participatory as possible. Please forward it to anyone that you think may have interest. If you aren t subscribed to the Vlog Europe Yahoo Group, you can do so at: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/vlogeurope/ Just to recap what s been going on: 1. There was an idea to have Vlog Europe 08 in Paris. 2. Loiez has found a venue and some dates in Budapest for next year, which is also a very good idea. 3. But we really want to make sure we re all on the same page about HOW we want to do this, and if we need a venue at all, before we decide where we want to do this. 4. We want to keep the discussion going until the New Year, and make a final decision on where we will have Vlog Europe 08 in January. Specifically, Raymond asked the following quesitons: * When is the best time to do it? * What does the ideal Vlog Europe looklike to you? * How do you think we should pay for it? * Is there anything else you want to say? 5. So please read my take below, and respond with your considerations. Raymond So here s my take on Vlog Europe 2008, before we can even consider where to do it.: * We need to come up with a purpose of the event that we can all agree on. For me, the purpose is: the promotion and celebration of independent downloadable video content made by people and collaborators located in Europe. For others, it may be something else. I ve noticed in the past two years that not having a clear purpose has caused a bit of frustration and misunderstanding. Nothing major, but we need to all be on the same page when it comes to what this is about by creating a purpose. We need to talk about this, see where we all agree, and run with it. * Having an event which requires sponsors vs. not having an event which requires sponsors is a big decision we need to make together. As I m sure other organizers of past Vlog Europes will tell you – when sponsors get involved, things get complicated and there s potential for a major clash of expectations on the part of organizers, participants and sponsors. I say we need to cut the stress and make things as simple and clear for everyone as we can. * We cannot waste time here. Last year was high in quality, but there weren t a lot of people there for a lot of reasons. We need to make sure that this is an event that people want to go to, and that it s an event that s not difficult for people to go to. * Formal sessions like we ve been doing for the past three years aren t quite effective. It s just too long, and like a lot of conferences, some of the best conversations happen while we socialise. On the other hand, we need to keep a good balance between just plain hanging out with each other and hanging out with each other with a self-defined purpose. * One of the things we really have to consider is how we bring new people into the fold every year, and how we bring more women, more under-represented segments of the population and more countries? * Random things I ve noticed that work: doing the event after October 1 but before US Thanksgiving, collaborative projects, screenings, a great setting with lots of things to film, a city plenty of places to hang out, low costs, easy transportation, having a big apartment/building/whatever where a lot of participants can stay So there s my take. What s yours? Cheers, Jeffrey I am still listening to the mp3. I wanted to scrub / fast forward a long time ago, while norm does his schtick, and madge deletes some music, but, ill listen to it all. I will comment as I get to the juice.
