Party People at Vloggies from - blip.tv (beta) on July 18, 2007 267 views / likes
Here's some roving around. I spoke with the lovely co-host of the show Irina Slutsky who won a vloggie for Best Interview. I also chat with super bloggers Robert Scoble and Steve Gillmor. They reveal an arcane blog strategy about how you can build more "Google Juice" for your blog if you are just mentioned but not directly linked -- this forces the interested person search process of Google helps you get Google Juice -- make sense? Also spoke with the "voice of the vloggies" Joe Klein and the incredibly cool Micki "Mickipedia" Krimmell, who heads community building for Revver and is building a tech scene in LA. "Live From Baghdad" Grabs Best Vlog at Vloggies from - blip.tv (beta) on July 18, 2007 204 views / likes
I was in San Francisco last night for the first annual vlogggies awards. Here's a comprehensive report from Robert Scoble. It was a terrific turnout. Some great vlogs and services were honored. The best vlog went to Alive in Baghdad. I caught up with Brian Conley who has established a network of video bloggers in Iraq and has developed an editing and distribution content for unique content from the war-torn nation. This is a very different style of journalism. Congrats. Tom Foremski also has a great post about the awards. He ponders, why didn't Beet.TV win an award? Thanks Tom -- there's always next year! Viral Video and Fundraising: Revver's Steven Starr Has a Vision -- Revver Launches Innovative Program with Larry Lessig's Creative Commons from - blip.tv (beta) on July 10, 2007 261 views / likes
I think the coolest guy I met at the Vloggies in San Francisco last Saturday night was Steven Starr, the founder and CEO of Revver, the viral video sharing network based in LA. Steven and I had a great talk about the potential of viral video in fundraising. Not just speculating about the future either; Revver has just launched a novel visibility/fundraising program for Creative Commons. Not merely a fan of Larry Lessig's not-for-profit organization that help creators make money from their work, Revver uses CC licenses so that people can legally share the videos in the Revver network across the Internet. Steven thinks that this sort of viral distribution of fundraising messages could be successful for various non-profits and for brands seeking to enhance their visibility through cause marketing. I totally agree and we're going to be exploring this topic over the next week or so. Here's a really interesting background story about Steven on the CC blog. You gotta love a guy who got his start in the entertainment business working with Bob Marley. See this video on Beet.TV: http://www.beet.tv/2006/11/viral_video_and.html

It's a Whole New Media Universe: What are the Implications of Video Blogs? Blip.TV's Mike Hudack Explains...and Says Net Video will Hit the TV Set Soon -- Watch Akimbo! from - blip.tv (beta) on July 10, 2007 609 views / likes
The video blogging world is something of an alternative universe. It sure seemed that way last Saturday night at the Vloggies where I met the very influential Laughing Squid, the TreeHugger and some crazed Ninja dude from LA who threatened to "kill Beet.TV" -- it was a joke, of course! But there is an alternative television universe that is growing and it's quite separate from the maintream media. Mike Hudack and Blip.TV have been very important in helping video bloggers create effective content distribution networks for vloggers. Blip.TV won the vloggies awards as best video hosting service. The company provides a bunch of services including creating Flash files, QuickTime files and is starting to send files to Akimbo -- the new service that links Internet video to the television set. Check out this product and stay tuned to the convergence of Web video to TV -- it's going to happen, Mike says. Congrats to Mike and his co-founder Dina Kaplan for winning a Vloggie and all your important work in empowering this new universe. The Vloggies Show - an update from england from - blip.tv (beta) on March 09, 2007 273 views / likes
I was reading in my feeds this morning that irina, podtech etc had given out a date for the next event in november (in la! - man that is some flying i gotta do again - might come over for a week this time) So i did a quick update about how my life has changed a little bit and the re-direction i took and how it is working out for me back home in overcast england (united kingdom) - i somehow (still strange to me) got an award for our bit part in the node666 (i still think paul stole em!) oh which i am very proud of and it helped me feel less of an outsider. After all to promote and elevate videobloggers so more people are doing it we need to educate and make others aware of this powerful medium right? - so quick video for the vloggies show that is coming out soon i recorded fairly early on my macbook this morning chatting briefly about what i have been doing. Hope i get an invite to the november one. By then i will need to come and get a break from things over here i bet. Hopefully i ll be able to hook up with a few fellow vloggers.
