The Web 2.0 summer meetup last month here in NYC was supposed to focus on content creation but monetization quickly dominated.

My video blogging mentors, Jay & Ryanne, are home safe from Beijing after managing to escape detention for documenting protests during the Olympics. Many vloggers were not so lucky. Boing Boing interviewed them via Skype as they hid out before returning home.

Always glad to see friends trying out online video. My friend, Serra, who has been the subject of many a video pancake, created this video blog about her family's Christmas, using Jump Cut.com. Serra has a photo camera that takes some video and with sites like Jump Cut, she doesn't need editing software to get rolling. Jump Cut does it for her. No, this is not an ad for Jump Cut, but excitement for where online video can go and where people like Serra can take it. Welcome, Serra. Keep those videos coming!

Author Sherri Rifkin's book "Love Hampton" is in stores today. I produced a series of videos for the book, one of them posted here. You can see them all on the official Love Hampton site. Congrats, Sherri on a very big day.

My nephews, Nathan and Sam, came to visit for a weekend a few months ago. We got a real kick out of telling them that we were taking them to a "museum talk" and then handing them Knicks tickets. Awesome weekend, awesome boys. Music by The Get Up Kids.

Today is my 35th birthday and as luck would have it, a piece I've edited for Rocketboom is up today. I am particularly proud of this one because it is a great example of what online video can do: people telling their own stories in their own voices. A nice birthday treat to share my work in a big way.

My family had a great week together. If only we had one more day...

I had an opportunity to edit an episode of Rocketboom yesterday. The video covers a powerpoint improv show done @ SXSW this year. Very funny idea.

We went to the New Museum for the first time. Really enjoyed it. It's so nice to see new art and downtown at that. Music by Peter Starstedt.

Every winter, we make time for a special "day in the city" to check out new places and see new things, all planned in secret so the day is a total surprise for each other. Spoke with students @ the CUNY graduate school of journalism last week about video blogging. We had some interesting discussions about fair use,editing techniques and the nature of vlog commentary. I encouraged them to have fun with video, showing them Vimeo's Fauxtography series.
