First video for Videobloggingweek2008.Videoblogging week started in 2004 with less than ten videobloggers as a participatory way to raise awareness of videoblogging and welcome new videobloggers. Over the years Videoblogging Week has grown to be an exciting yearly event that encourages people to push themselves creatively.I'm also posting this to Semanal.

Ryan and I say this contraption in New Orleans. Everyone who saw it said it was so much better than seeing 5 guys spend a whole day fixing one pothole.

Here's FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein talking about Net Neutrality. He was speaking to a great panel at the Politics Online conference on the future of broadband in the US. It's funny that the conversation is not about technology, but simply what openness means. The current Bush administration (represented by the guy on the right) thinks we should just let market forces figure it out. But others consider broadband as a public service like telephone, water, and roads. Without open guidelines, where's the innovation and equal access when there's a duopoly controlling the access to the internet?

Since Ryanne and I are moving soon, we're getting rid of everything to drive across the country. This is for week 9 of Semanal, a year long group video project that is open for anyone to join.

Look how insane LA looks at night as you fly into the city. We built it piece by piece. This is for week 7 of Semanal. Music: Pachebel's Canon In D (Glass Harmonica). See how they play the crystals here. Kick ass.

| | Peter says: Jay's was one of the first videoblogs, and even though he doesn't post often these days, it's still a must subscribe. Personal, reflective and often intense. |
| | sulleleven says: jay is vlog yoda, or something like that. |
| | devlond says: Jay's messages always speak to the simple questions, the questions most of us are asking. |

The Cockroach Connection.

The good:
His videos are often poetic, revealing a quiet contemplation and celebration of the mundane universe.
The bad:
His videos are few and far between, which is a shame, but I think he's a busy guy.
Review:
Jay Dedman possesses an excitement for the medium (vlogging) that goes unmatched. He's part of the FireANT crew, responsible for bringing you a great tool, like this one (Mefeedia), for subscribing to your favorite videoblogs. He also works for a public television network in Manhattan, and when he does find time to sit his ass down and make a video, you will find simplicity in all it's amazing charm, put together with care and a love for his subject that is as sincere as a man can get. When he's not showing his own videos, he's pointing you to very relevant stories and videos that you should know about. When you subscribe to Momentshowing, and get to know Dedman through his videos, you'll most likely find a man who sees a cockroach as a way of connecting the world.
Artist and visionary for a new medium.

The good:
Makes me think about what I could be doing with a Video Blog
The bad:
Sometimes I have to think about what the point of all this is...
Review:
I found out about video blogs when I accidently read something Jay had written about using video blogging. I don't remember it specifically, but the point was: anybody can do this and everyone should, but here's what you need to think about. Since then I've learned a whole lot more, but everytime I watch one of Jay's posts, I have to stop and re-consider the many possibilities here. Jay is open to posting the best work by others he comes across and at the same time has his own very unique way of showing us what's going on in his life via blogging. The 'Talking Head Argument' post of very personal video from his girlfriend Ryanne and himself is an amazing new use of this medium as well as a kind of honesty that you rarely see in any artform. And it is that emotional honesty that confirms that Jay and Ryanne are helping to pioneer not just a new medium, but a new artform.
Thanks to both of them...
