Giant Crane Disassembly at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles

QuickTime vPIP The $548 million, seven-floor, 460,000-square-foot building (that will be the new hospital building at Children s Hospital of Los Angeles) used a giant crane to help build it. Vu and I were asked to photograph and video the disassembly of the crane. It was an amazing sight from our vantage point. Almost every peice that came off needed it s own truck to haul it off. It is also a very dangerous job if the proper safety procedures are not used. Fortunatley everything went smooth and safe.Click here to view as slideshow This is the removal of the counter weights. If one of these were to drop while being moved it would break through 3 floors of a building. The counter weights are very heavy. Here is the last piece that was removed before we left for the day. There was a very nice view of Los Angeles proper from the helicopter pad we were taking photographs and video from. Here are The Bui Brothers atop the helicopter pad where we had a great view of the Hollywood sign. Slideshow music by Paul Dateh

Cancun Day 6

QuickTime vPIP Today was a pretty busy day, even though we only intended to go to one place. We started the day out lazily by sleeping in until 11:00am. Got up and asked our tour sales guy, Victor, if he could get us to Chitzen Itza; unfortunately the tour left at 7:00am. We ended up renting a car and thinking it would be a great idea to drive there. We mapped out a really great day trip from Cancun to Chitzen Itza then to Tulum. We had plenty of time to make it a good long road trip across a lot of the Yucatan Peninsula. We started out great, our rental car guy gave us a map and told us the fastest and most cost effective way of going. Basically there is a toll road that has two toll plazas, one $20 one and the next one is $16. There is no avoiding the $20 unless you go on rural roads which will make your trip about 4 hours. So we were off on our way. All would have been well if there was not construction we were delayed an hour and a half going through what should have been our 20 minute $16 savings route Once we made it to Chitzen Itza all was great, we walked around and took photographs and some video. When it was time to leave were were hungry so we went to find a Taco place after a week here it seems like taco s are a Pacific thing it took us about 30 minutes to find a place that served taco s. The taco s we ate had a local flavor to them, the ingredients were all fresh and delicious. Well, by that time we were pretty late and so we debated canceling the Tulum trip. It was just getting too late in the day, we had already driven 200km to Chitzen Itza and it was another 200km to Tulum and then another 130km back to our hotel so we decided to take the scenic rural route back to our hotel (you know, the one with no toll). It was an amazing adventure back. With a mega thunder storm, dogs, chickens, a cat, a church in ruins, and about a thousand speed bumps we made it back in just under 5 hours. Since Bonny shot the day with our HD camera, I just captured some random pieces of footage from the tape to post, once I get back home I ll capture the footage and post something else, too. The day can only be summed up by calling it an adventure Charlie.

QuickTime vPIP Today Bonny and I had a very awesome time at Xcaret, Mexico. Think Disneyland in Mexico with a Mayan, jungle and Caribbean theme. It was way one of the best experiences we have had. The best part for me was when we went swimming in underground rivers and swimming in the jungle. This is just a small portion of the day, I ll post a full review of Xcaret once I m back home.

QuickTime vPIP Above is another bit of video from our day 2 in Cancun, Mexico. We got to go kayaking, meet a monkey, and go on a pirate cruise! I d also like to write (type) about what made it possible for me to be here. I am here for work Click here to view as slideshow The whole reason I m here is because of this happy person. Well, not just her, but also her cool fiance. Carrie and Daniel are getting married this Sunday, that is one thing I was hired to shoot. Another reason I m here, and it is an important one, Is because of this guy; Aaron Dieppa, wedding photographer. He asked me if he could hire me to come and shoot the wedding with him and make some promo videos, I said YES. Finally, what made it possible for me to be here is my support team. My support team here is Bonny! She it taking care of shooting video for the promos we will make as well as doing a ton of other things. And here is photograph of the sunset last night. Without Bonny, I don t think I d be able to properly photograph the wedding and make promos for Aaron. So, thank you Bonny!!! Without Aaron hiring me to shoot the wedding with him and make promo videos I would not be able to be here. Thank you Aaron!!! And Thanks to Carrie and Daniel for getting engaged and planning your wedding here in beautiful Cancun, Mexico. Slideshow Music by Paul Dateh

Mark Brooke Photographers Promo Video

QuickTime vPIP Vu and I were hired to make a promo video for Candice and Mark of Mark Brooke Photographers. It is a great honor to be able to work with them. If you don t know who they are, you are missing out! Check out their blog. After a few days of planning, we had a vision of shooting in the hills with dead grass and bringing their couples there for the testimonials. I think we nailed our vision. Something that Mark and Candice talked to Vu and I about was how important video promotion is to a photographer. Vu and I believe it is essential to any business to have video so that prospective clients can get to know the business instantly when they go to the website. This benefits both the prospective client and the business by saving time; if your client loves your video and they love your personality that they see in it they will contact you and will already feel they kind of know you. If the potential client doesn t like it, then they don t have to waste time setting up a meeting; they can move on and find their perfect match. I think in short, a video makes a business more transparent when done right, it shows who you will actually meet and what they are like. After watching the video I m sure you will really know Mark and Candice much better. Check this post on Vu s blog for the photographs that he took for the video.

QuickTime vPIP Music by: Paul Dateh Photo by: Luis Muna Video by: Paul Dateh Video by: Cube News 1 I had the pleasure of being one of the organizers for The Winnies 2007. It was very rewarding to see everyone come out and have a great time. Luis from LuisMuna.com was our official photographer, if you didn t get a chance to meet him here is a photograph of him: You should also subscribe to his blog, which he just set up yesterday at LuisMuna.com. I know he will be posting lots of interesting things in the near future. Well, I took Luis photos from flickr (which he kindly released under a Creative Commons Attribution license) and made a picture video out of them. I also used a slightly lost mp3 that some of you might recognize from Paul Dateh. Mike Hedge also took many great Photographs at the Winnies 2007, here is his flickr set. And finally, here is the Winnies flickr group you can join and add your photos to.

QuickTime vPIP Music by Monsters from Mars This video is an example of that it is like to go an a photo shoot with me. I asked Bonny to come with us and just record what happens, Jay and Ryanne were nice enough to say very kind things too!!! What we didn t get on video was the cool lighting setup we used on the beach, it got too dark to see much of it in video. Maybe next time we can get some footage of it.

Here is a Picture Video of Rachel and Beracah s wedding. The wedding ceremony was held in La Jolla and the reception at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park in San Diego. It was a very fun wedding, everything went smooth and i think everyone had a lot of fun! I wonder what other professional photographers think about these videos, good? Bad? Would they be willing to show all photographs they took to a client? Well, if you are a professional photographer let me know what you think.

iPhone/iPod version is here This is something new I am trying with my wedding photography. I have made Picture Videos before with events and weekends and even years, but I wondered how a couple would like to see their wedding as a picture video. While learning about wedding photography I found that most of the other professionals edit down their photographs from each wedding to around 500-1000 shots to show the couple as proofs. This is great for saving the couple time and the hassle of going through so many photographs to chose the ones they like. It also makes the photographer look better by only showing the best; but there are so many other shots that just get wasted. Well, here is my wedding photography: raw and unedited, power pumped into your eyes and ears. I m not sure how others will like this, but this is my way of not wasting those otherwise lost photographs. Music is by Finnston.
