Episode CLII: Cons Near and Far Far East from Star Wars Action News on July 21, 2008 21 views / likes
What an exhausting time for Star Wars fans and Collectors. Never one to let us sleep, Lucasfilm has Star Wars Celebration: Japan the weekend before San Diego Comic Con. Celebration Japan is likely the biggest Star Wars party in the world for 2008 and Star Wars Action News' Larry is there to cover it. Mark Hammil signing, exclusive items, and new items being shown for the first time. It's a tremendous time to be a Star Wars fan in Japan, whether you live there or are just visiting. Then we have San Diego Comic Con which Steve Sansweet promised would be a spectacular party for Star Wars fans. Marjorie, Arnie, and several other Star Wars Action News staff are going to be covering the event in great detail over the next week, starting with our exclusive Premiere Night coverage coming to you right as the doors open 7 p.m. PST. But this week we run down what is coming up at SDCC--the exclusives, the panels, and all the excitement that is to be had. With a couple international voice mails and a review of the first Coruscant Nights novel, listen to this episode of Star Wars Action News--possibly on your way to San Diego! And if you are going to this year's San Diego Comic Con we'll not only have a Star Wars Action News dinner but also a line party at Mission Bay! Dinner will be at 8 p.m. at Tio Leo, a Mexican restaurant. There are several in the area, we will be going to the one at 5302 Nappa Street in San Diego (it's near Mission Bay, so close to the TRU). Then between 10 and 10:30 we will head to the Toys R Us at Mission Bay to join the line and have some fun and trivia! There's a chance that you may be able to carpool with someone from the con to dinner or dinner to TRU, but car capacity may be limited. If interested, RSVPs are requested but not required at our forum post. Talk to you Wednesday...from San Diego!

Episode CLI: The Hunt for the Great White Cards from Star Wars Action News on July 14, 2008 33 views / likes
This week's episode of Star Wars Action News is like Herman Melville's classic Moby Dick. Only instead of Ahab it's Arnie. And instead of being really really long it's only about an hour. And instead of a great white whale it's an even bigger treasure: white carded figures that have slipped out before release date. Marjorie and Arnie take you on a tour of stores trying to find employees who blithely disregard street dates in the name of efficiency. And we play voicemails from at least one listener who DID capture his great white toy. Where did he get it, and how did he get out without the dreaded sign of "Sale Not Allowed"? Listen to find out! Also this week, we have a hands-on review of the very high-end collectible Yoshitoku Vader, initially offered up for order at Celebration Japan. This is an item few will own, but listen to our podcast to find out what makes this such an incredible piece. With Scott from Tulsa and Nathan from the EU, its another great episode of Star Wars Action News as we ramp up for ComicCon! And if you're going to San Diego Comic Con don't forget, Friday, July 25th at 8 p.m. will be the Star Wars Action News dinner, and starting between 10 and 10:30 we'll be joining the line at the Mission Bay Toys R Us for the line party! RSVPs for the dinner aren't required, but they are requested so we can tell the restaurant how many people we expect. You can e-mail us at show@reviewstarwars.com to let us know you're coming, or PM arniec in the Star Wars Action News forums. Stay tuned to swactionnews.com for location information.

Tuesday July 8th marks a new era for Star Wars collectibles as 500 Star Wars fans will be able to purchase the first product from eFX Collectibles-the retouched version of Master Replicas' Stormtrooper Helmet. The mold is the same, the grill is a little cleaned up, and the base is totally different. Star Wars Action News has a hands on review of this product so you can make your final decision to whip out that credit card. Plus have you ever wished to have a vintage mint-on-card collection? If you've ever looked on eBay or at your local convention for vintage carded figures every so often you are faced with the question-is that a fake? Our vintage expert Kevin takes a look at professionally recarded vintage figures to give you the lowdown on this niche, sometimes mistakenly bought, collectible. Also this week we have plenty of news, from a review of the Wizard World con, a high-end item over 50% off hidden in the back of Toys R Us, discuss all the old items hanging out on the pegs and the few street-date breaking leaks of new toys. We preview the upcoming BIG BOOK Star Wars Frames, and run down the latest announcements from Sideshow Collectibles. With Steve updating us with his latest UK report, a slew of listener voicemails, and more; it's on this week's Star Wars Action News! And for those of you going to San Diego Comic Con we announce our plans on this episode for our Star Wars Action News dinner 8 p.m. in San Diego, followed by a SWAN line party at the Toys R Us in Mission Bay. Episode CXLVIII: More Nice Things from Star Wars Action News on June 23, 2008 66 views / likes
This week, the Star Wars Action News hosts are seeing red. They're red hopping mad, you might even say. Why? Because the new exclusive TIE Fighter "has got some red on ya" (to quote Shaun of the Dead). Yes, someone graffitied a big red garish Rebel symbol on the latest "big wing" TIE Fighter re-release, and they jacked up the price too, $53 at Entertainment Earth. Is this too much for the 4th release of this mold? Have we now got more TIE Fighters than the compliment of a Super Star Destroyer? Find out on this week's show! We also discuss this week how the new Wal Mart exclusive Droid Factory figures and Comic Book two packs are hitting shelves, with voice mail reports from listeners. We review the new collectible 10 volume hardcover Star Wars book collection from Dark Horse, and we discuss how we think Titan magazine's business model is somewhat flawed, punishing the good customers and rewarding the disloyal. With a UK segment, a Hasbro QnA, and more, it's all on this week's Star Wars Action News!

Episode CXLVII: Cracking the Whip from Star Wars Action News on June 16, 2008 66 views / likes
Still frothing at the mouth for new toys, the Star Wars Action News team gathered again this week to look at the upcoming July releases from Hasbro. After focusing on the vehicles last episode, this episode the group talks about the new figures of both The Legacy Collection and The Clone Wars toy lines. Which do the team want more, animated style or non? Will the animated figures sell to kids? And what is Hasbro trying to pull with sending e-mails saying figures won't go on clearance, only to be found on clearance days later? Also listen to find out where to get the 16th (and final?) Clone Wars character key (from the first Clone Wars animated series), and to hear Kevin review and discuss another vintage figure, one I'm sure vintage collectors will remember. All this and more on this week's Star Wars Action News.

July 26th is getting closer and closer (and to see how close check out all the nifty new countdown timers at swactionnews.com) and the excitement is palpable for new toys. None of the new toys has gotten the buzz as the new vehicles, and with Hasbro previewing the instruction sheets this past week even the buzz has buzz. The Star Wars Action News staff convenes for their first roundtable discussion of the season to discuss these upcoming vehicles, and will return next week with another roundtable to discuss the figures. We also have a call from Rusty in Orlando updating us to the Star Wars Weekends fun at Disney, and talk about how you can own an actual piece of the Captain Rex prop from the Star Tours ride. With a review of the Hoth Patrol TRU Battle Pack, discussion on where to find all the shadow-y Saga Legends figures, and Star Wars fun in general, it's Star Wars Action News.

Episode CXLIV: Saga Legends Lunacy from Star Wars Action News on May 26, 2008 99 views / likes
The final five Saga Legends are an elusive bunch, perhaps because so many of them are "Shadow" troopers they stay well hidden. Despite their best attempts at camouflage Star Wars Action News spotted some this week. They review the figures chosen to be rereleased as well as their special coins. We also talk about the latest for Galactic Heroes packs to be released, with new Jedi and new clones! Also this week, Kevin brings us another vintage figure review. Episode CXL: Attack of the Pod People from Star Wars Action News on April 28, 2008 93 views / likes

We report on the con and scour the vendors' booths for any Star Wars items available. Also this week, everyone knows that keeping a large carded figure collection can take a lot of space. Finally we have a double dose of vintage as Darth Gawth continues reviewing vintage mint-on-card figures in his collection, and Darth Bounty informs us about the ancestors of the Titanium figures, Kenner's first die-cast Star Wars vehicle line. Episode CXXXIX: Fit to be TIE'd from Star Wars Action News on April 21, 2008 123 views / likes
The collecting community has been watching the progress of new Star Wars collectibles licensee eFX with great interest, and we were rewarded this week with the announcement of the first product from eFX--a full scale Stormtrooper helmet. Given how sought after the Master Replicas version of this helmet is, and with only 500 being released by eFX, this is sure to be a very hot seller. eFX CEO Bryan Ono sat down with us this week to talk about the Stormtrooper helmet, what's the same as the MR version, what's different, and how both domestic and international collectors can get their hands on it. Also this week, for years Star Wars collectors complained that the Hasbro and Kenner TIE Fighters had wings that were too small, too out of scale with the cockpit to be movie accurate. Then in 2005 Hasbro responded by giving us a Target exclusive "big wing" TIE Fighter. For years, Star Wars collectors complained that the Hasbro and Kenner TIE Fighters were blue, not at all the color they appeared to be on screen. In 2005 Hasbro responded by giving us a gray TIE fighter. From there things can only get worse... Hasbro started to mix and match wing size and colors. Toys R Us recently got in the third exclusive release of the "big wing" TIE Fighter, this time in "whitish gray". How different is it from the previous Toys R Us gray fighter, and from the Target blue fighter? We discussion those issues this week. Also this week we look at the latest Target exclusives in both 3.75" scale and for the Galactic Heroes. From Mustufar to Kashyyyk to Endor, there are battle packs galore, and with a new Jedi starfighter to boot! Which of these items are worth the money and which should you wait to get red tagged? We tell you on this week's Star Wars Action News.

Episode CXXXVIII: Something Unexpected... from Star Wars Action News on April 14, 2008 126 views / likes
This is a week of surprises. First, Star Wars fans were surprised over the weekend when the new, full trailer for the upcoming Clone Wars Animated Movie was leaked onto the internet (with Polish subtitles). As our first peek at the story of the seventh theatrical Star Wars release, Marjorie and Arnie give their thoughts on what expectations they have for the film, and discuss forum member's opinions of the trailer. Next, Galactic Hunter's Adam May broke some amazing news about a huge (literally) new release from Hasbro due out this summer. It's a new Millennium Falcon, and it's bigger and badder than ever. The Star Wars Action News hosts run down this information and review the pre-release information of the item. Finally, something unexpected dropped into the Sithsonian this week as Marjorie and Arnie bought an Arcade game. With a weekend's drive from Illinois to Tennessee, they took this opportunity to hit most of the Wal Marts along the way looking for the ellusive Force Unleashed wave of Hasbro figures. Did they buy the arcade game, and did they find any figures along the way? All that and more will be revealed on this exciting episode of Star Wars Action News.

Episode CXXXVII: Execute Order 66. Again. from Star Wars Action News on April 07, 2008 204 views / likes
We don't know who at Hasbro the Target executive buyers have dirt on, but it must be someone as so far in 2008 Target has had the largest number of exclusives of any retailer. With the Galactic Hero packs, the Aayla Secura starfighter, the Order 66 2-packs, and the upcoming Force Unleashed Rancor, plus more, Target is the "spot" to shop. This week, the hosts of Star Wars Action News stumbled upon a trove of Target exclusives, and provide a detailed look at the new Order 66 2-packs. Also on this week's Star Wars Action News, Starwars.com last week announced the most recent release date for the highly anticipated game The Force Unleashed, and to accompany that announcement was a video showing the game on various platforms including the Nintendo Wii, DS, and the Playstation 2 and PSP. Arnie and Marjorie look at these various Force Unleashed versions to talk about what's exclusive to each and which they must have. Finally this week, we have a revised Expanded Universe report from Nathan discussing EU that doesn't focus on movie-characters, and Jakob ponders the lull in Hasbro product between now and The Clone Wars. All this and more on this week's Star Wars Action News!

Arnie and Marjorie travel to New York to bring you the latest news and images from Toy Fair 2008. See and get first impressions of the products your favorite vendors have. This promises to be a big year with The Force Unleashed hitting your console of choice and The Clone Wars animated series coming to both the big and small screen. What products are in store. Tune in to find out. Toy Fair 2008, Hasbro and Lego: The first stop today was the Hasbro booth. Arnie and Marjorie got samplings of the concurrent lines of figures including animated style Clone Wars figures and the realistic style of The Legacy Collection. Many vehicles, mutlipacks, and other products await us. If 2007 was the year of the ewoke, 2008 is Year of the Droid at Hasbro. Our collecting duo also swung by the Lego booth to see all the great sets coming out with tie ins to both The Force Unleashed and The Clone Wars.

The 2008 figures are hitting hard and fast. 2-1B, Mustafar Panning Droids, Darth Vader, and many other Episode 3 figures are being found both in stores and online. Find out where these figures are showing up, and hear Arnie and Marjorie discuss these figures on this week's Star Wars Action News. Also this week, Nathan is back giving us an EU update, and it's an important one. Star Wars comics have NEVER had a cross-over event like the current Star Wars: Vector storyline. Nathan brings you up to speed with everything you need to know in his February EU report. With a Hasbro Q&A covering Force F/X sabers, Ewoks, and Kybucks (oh my!), a reflection on the yellowing of toys, and a discussion of a possible price increase in Titanium ships, this week's Star Wars Action News is a must-listen.
