Hello and welcome to a UPI weekly White House wrap-up. This week, President Bush said he intends to remove North Korea from the U.S. terror list and ease some trade restrictions against the country. This comes after Pyongyang handed over its long-awaited nuclear programs declaration to officials from China yesterday. Bush added that North Korea still needs to verify that its declarations are true, but he welcomed the news as the first of a multi-step process. President Bush and Iraq's president met this week to discuss a complex Iraq security deal. The agreement would keep U.S. troops in Iraq after a U.N. mandate expires at the end of the year. President Jalal Talabani said he hoped the plan could be finished very soon. Bush wants an agreement in place before he leaves office in January. The President welcomed Vietnam's efforts toward greater religious freedom after meeting with the government's prime minister this week. Religion is in under state supervision in the mostly Buddhist country. But two years ago, Vietnam was removed from a State Department list of countries that suppress religious expression. However, that didn't stop demonstrators from gathering outside the White House to protest Vietnamese government policies during Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung (Nuh-wee-ihn Tahn Duhng) visit.
