I want our members to know how delighted I am by their participation in The Palomar since we moved it to its new web address at the beginning of July. It is fun for me to turn on my computer every morning to see if there are any new posts on The Palomar. Often there are! Some of you have taken time to comment on what others have posted. I like that practice. It lets the member know who posted the entry that another member cares enough to comment on it. Terrific! If you are not in the habit of commenting, give it a shot! If you're away from The Palomar for awhile, a quick way to refresh your memory is to read our "Blog Tips." Look for the gold button by that name in the sidebar under the heading, "Push Our Buttons." I moved The Palomar to this web address on July 1, 2007. The main reason I switched from a WordPress to a Blogger blog is that Blogger is much more user-friendly. When I launched the WordPress version of The Palomar in October 2005, I wanted it to be a member-driven, interactive blog. To be sure, we soon had about two dozen members, but not many posted entries or comments. In time, I ended up posting most of the entries. I've never understood why people joined and never participated. What's the point? I have been using Blogger for other blogs for about five years. I liked the way it has evolved, always getting better. I also have a couple of Movable Type (Six Apart) blogs. In terms of ease of use, on a scale of one to ten (with ten being the best), I rank Blogger 10, WordPress 4, and Movable Type flat-out zero. Movable Type is an outstanding example of writing at its worst. Its guidelines and instructions are pathetic, verbose exercises in jargon, seemingly aimed to confuse all of us who aren't tech savvy geeks bemoaning the glory days of the slide rule. For that, Movable Type has the chutzpa to charge an arm and a leg for what Blogger offers for free! Blogger wins hands down because it is easy to use. That's the way it should be. And Blogger is FREE. I thank our members for participating in The Palomar. I really appreciate what each of you has done, is doing, and will be doing in the future to make The Palomar an enjoyable blog about the Swing Era, the big band days, when big bands ruled the airwaves, when great music was available all day and all night long. The good news is that it still is, right here on The Palomar. One more thing: Our MP3 Player is in the footer of this page, another name for the lower portion near the bottom. Hit CTRL-END to go to the bottom quickly, then scroll up a little. You'll probably see a small round, spinning graphic. Watch it for a few seconds. Presto! The music begins! Turn up your speakers! You'll find links to several similar Playlists right below our MP3 Player. George Spink Moderator - The Palomar Los Angeles, California Email Me
