Magnetic reed switches are used to control an amplified signal which rings the telephone bell with a frequency determined by the movements of the two wheels. Both switches, one for each wheel, must be on to to produce an on signal. This results in emergent ringing patterns that possess the famiiar tone of the telephone but are unique and ever evolving.
