With better looks comes better payand thats why more Americans are choosing cosmetic surgery to help catapult their careersto the top. According tothe American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgerytwo-thirds of its members reported that both females and males paid to go under the knife just to stay competitive in the workplace. Gordon Patzerauthor of Looks: Why They Matter More Than You Ever Imagined, says that cuter newborns in a nursery are touched, held, and talked to more than less attractive babies. So as these babies mature, graduate from college, and enter the workforce, those who are more attractive will most likely land jobs sooner than the aesthetically challenged individuals. Patzer also says that with changing attitudes, social norms, and technological advancescosmetic surgery will become increasingly common. He predicts it will become a tool in career advancement -- similar to buying clothes and paying for higher education.
