Description:
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time. With the arrival of the dog days of summer, thoughts often turn more towards lying on the beach instead of running along one. Taking a break from a physical activity for a week, or simply lowering the intensity and duration can gain you a big benefit. Pampering the body with a change in break or reduced activity level, gives it time to heal and recover from minor aches so when you pick the pace back up you feel re-energized.We've warmed things up in the past with a trio of female artists, and this week we let the men have the spotlight to get things moving.Matthew Ebel has seen his music journey from heavy metal, prog rock to acoustic geek-rock with the release of Beer & Coffee, as we then offer up another track from one of our favorite new finds, The Black Ghosts.Theo Keating and Simon Lord discovered each other via the internet, and only met after working on a significant amount of material of there self labeled 'perverse pop-music'.Closing out the warm up in another new find courtesy of the good folks at Ariel Publicity, and Second Dan whose sound is reminiscent of the early days of U2. Intelligent songwriting combined with music tinged with the energy of The Replacements and the complexity of Radiohead.Cranking things up is a great free collaboration under the heading of CABACA that brings artists from Asia Pacific and spans not just borders, but languages and genres. The artists have released the resulting album for free, and we show off the combined talents of two Taiwanese artists, hip-hop group Kou Chou Ching and the amazing MoShang with vocals by Sonja V.Jef Stott has cast his musical net from Africa to the Middle East, studying under master musicians from Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Iran and Turkey which led him to become accomplished many traditional stringed and percussion instruments, and whose music melds their rhythms and energy into one big groove.Drawing from Jazz, Soul, Latin, African, Brazilian and mixing them with electronic music into a masterful blend is something we've grown accustomed to from Japans Studio Apartment (DJ/Producer Masanori Morita and keyboardist Noboru Abe) and layering on the vocal talents of Monique Bingham raises the resulting product into musical overdrive.Fat Naked Lady, composed of Yuri Gonzalez (bass/programming) Carlos Acevedo (percussion) and Hugo Sources (guitar), keeps the energy up and the vibe stuck in groove before we glide into the soulful sound of J'Nay, that have led some to compare him to the likes of Sam Cooke, Al Green, and Prince.Ananda Project shows off why they are a musical juggernaut that has taken the dance floor by storm, since their inception in 1998, with another track with their eclectic and sensuous sounds that meld euphoric soulful house with contemplative r&b, spiritually-minded cosmic jazz-fusion, organic Balearic grooves, supple electronic textures and percussive Afro-Latin rhythms. The Orb (one of the founding fathers of ambient house) steps in to close the work out with a song that once heard will stick with you for a long time, as they blend old world with new, dance with searing guitar, all supported by an infectious bassline.Balkan Fanatik returns, this time to cool things down, with another of their unique fusions of todayâs sound with synth pop, hip hop, and contemporary electronic dance music into traditional Eastern-European folk sounds. Closing things out this week is one of Hungaryâs more famous DJâs Hamvai PG teaming up with The Flamemakers for a chilled out sound with just a hint of Asian influences.
