There are times when you the two parts of your conscious will battle for who your listen to on days when exercise seems like something that should be put off, it is harder still to ignore an exercise partner who you know will physically drag you off of the couch. We shake off the chill of spring with the sounds of Hatian born Jacky Ambroise whose love of the flamenco guitar is combined with traditional troubadour rhythm of his country creating what he loves to call Tropical Flamenco. Former Cirque du Soleil electric violinist Edgar Gabriel heads StringFusion, a group of eclectic musicians from around the world who bring their native sounds and rhythms to be fused with rock and classical instruments and elements all merging into a signature sound before Giordano Trivellato and Giuliano Sacchetto as The Bex close out the warm-up with an chilled back sound and groove. We crank things up in a ska meets punk vein for the first three tracks starting with The Bruce Lee Band whose up-tempo beat and catchy lyrics make a serious one two punch before the surf like sound of The Delstars keeps thing kicking. The Clinton's firmly have their tongues in their cheeks with a song that reminds one a little bit of Madness, blending ska, punk, pop and humour all into one big bouncy rhythm. We then start shift genres first dipping into the world sound that is Detroit based Zebula Avenue as they blend traditional with modern melodies and then groove to the freestyle vibe and body rocking beat of Los Angeles based Zeroleen before New York based DJ Nick Jones carries the beat and keeps it going. One of our favorite artists Yamasaki, brings his always contagious beat that mixes smooth jazz, funk and a big beat and teams that up with the acoustical magic of Children of a New Jazz Era to create music that soars, swoops and swings. We close things out with a trio of songs and artists all with the dance floor in mind. Arnaud D from Lyon, France sets a driving tribal beat mixed with the electronic sounds of the dance floor, who hands the beat off to smooth groove of Tennishero, and then lets Soma Sonic, Brothers Francois and Dominic Paterson, bring the work out to a close with their unique blend of dance and a touch of jazz and swing to the mix Cooling things down are Balkan Fanatik, originally formed to help preserve the musical heritage of Eastern Europe and the Balkans by taking traditional sounds and adding the sounds of today to reach out to young audiences. Madrid de los Austrias (DJ and A Pogo Kreiner) are back to close things out with one of the most laid-back beats to date that shows off Andalusian rhythms, flamenco and Heavy vino tinto.
