Poet David Whyte was asked to comment on film about Jerry Wennstrom's artwork, for a documentary, "In the Hands of Alchemy: the Art and Life of Jerry Wennstrom." Only a few comments were actually used, but we looked again at the entire footage and decided every second of Whyte's half hour discourse was gripping and challenging. As an artist, Wennstrom once decided to destroy his life's work, all his paintings, because he realized he had turned his art into his God. He would find God in everyday life. He gave away all his possessions, and lived with what presented itself before him. In Part One of this discourse, Whyte talks about facing death in all its manifestations. He refers often to Wennstrom's art and his path, but anyone who has faced death of what they considered parts of themselves...evenly, straight on, will relate to the wisdom Whyte speaks about. Thanks to Paul Adams and David Hoffman for use of their music "Zorro and the Fat Man." See http://www.pauladams.com to listen to this piece and others.
