From : Pop17
mov | wmv | 3gp | m4v I sat down with YouTube fame, Caitlin Hill, who has just relocated from Australia to New York City. She is an actress, dancer, video blogger, blogger and is looking to get more involved with live video. I asked Caitlin to explain some of her greatest challenges. She says: The challenges that one faces when they are a video blogger is remaining true to themselves. There is so much criticism and when you are also editing yourself you get to see a side of you that you have never seen, and you become highly critical of yourself. You also start to change yourself to fit what the audience likes OR you change yourself to go against what the audience likes. It can shatter confidence and increase self-doubt. The hardest thing I face now, is just getting back to basics and also just getting off my butt and making the videos I ve been dreaming about for years. That s the problem, I m too lazy. Another thing that is hard is keeping up with it all. The Internet is 24/7, as we all know, and as soon as you close your eyes, your whole digital world can change. It s not a very stable environment to grow up in ; )

 From : WebbAlert
Can't see the video? Watch this video now in a browser or download this video now. MySpace launches "Data Availability" - it's a partnership with Yahoo, Ebay, Photobucket and Twitter. Now you can broadcast your public MySpace profile information to all of those sites and sync them up. Facebook follows with Facebook Connect, and Google is set to launch "Friend Connect." The race is on. Facebook has added safeguards to protect younger users from sexual predators and cyberbulllies... ...and they've also lifted the cap of 5000 friends. Now you can friend as many people as you want... ...but how much are those friends worth? Fox Interactive Media revenue dropped from $233 million to $210 million dollars. They say it's because selling advertising space on social networks is really hard. Microsoft has sold 2 million Zune players since 2006. Compared with Apple - they sold over 10 million iPods last quarter - it's small potatoes. While you're waiting for someone to design a car that gets more than 100 miles to the gallon, you can try a quick fix to save some dollars at the pump. The Vatican has updated their website to include a section of papal texts and holy works - written entirely in Latin - and the navigation is in Latin as well, so let's brush up! Repeat after me: "Hic haec hoc...huis huis huis" Want to get every episode of WebbAlert automatically delivered to your iTunes software, or another great player? Click here!

 From : Boing Boing TV
Can't see the video? Watch this video now in a browser or download this video now. Xeni visits the offices of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and speaks with Jake Appelbaum and Bill Paul, two of the authors of a security research paper that shows how your computer's memory can be tricked into revealing data you thought was safely encrypted, and out of the reach of others. One method involves using a can of compressed air to quickly cool the memory chip, but freezing the target isn't the only way to lull it into submission -- Paul shows us how to use an iPod or a USB thumb drive to do the same thing. These methods have been shown to defeat three popular disk encryption products commonly used to protect data on laptops: BitLocker (Windows Vista), FileVault (MacOS X), and dm-crypt (Linux). Here's the entire text of the report draft, released earlier this year: Lest We Remember: Cold Boot Attacks on Encryption Keys . Authors: J. Alex Halderman, Seth D. Schoen, Nadia Heninger, William Clarkson, William Paul, Joseph A. Calandrino, Ariel J. Feldman, Jacob Appelbaum, and Edward W. Felten. The team plan to research additional software tools and a final version of their report at Usenix Security Symposium in July/August. Special thanks to Seth Schoen and Peter Eckersley of the EFF.

From : The Mac Show (Low Def/iPod)
iMovie is pretty cool but kinda limited on features, including those you may have seen us use on previous episodes. As part of our move to the Mac we needed a better video editing solution for creating the show. Previous episodes were done on a PC which felt wrong so to feel clean we moved to Final Cut Express. In this episode Nick show us its basic operation and how he uses it to put together the show.

I got to see some really cool D.I.Y. projects, but I'm not allowed to show you those just yet. On Brief #360, I talk to one of the three gurus, Alison Lewis about how her interest in integrating technology into fashion. She gets her fashion cred from Parsons, and her tech cred from creating and installing interactive exhibits in children's and science museums.

 From : Boing Boing TV
Can't see the video? Watch this video now in a browser or download this video now. Today on Boing Boing tv, part two of Xeni's visits with John Gaeta, the Academy Award-winning Visual Effects supervisor of the Matrix trilogy -- his new film, Speed Racer, opens today in theaters around the US. This latest Wachowski brothers project reinterprets the classic 1960s Japanese anime series of the same name. In this second part of BBtv's conversation with Gaeta, he reveals some of the art, anime, and pop culture elements that combine to form Speed Racer's "poptimistic photo-anime" feel. The live action Speed Racer is saturated in a candy-colored palette so rich, audiences may just leave the theater with a contact sugar high. View interactive samples of the digital building blocks behind the movie in a related online feature in VRMAG, "Speed Racer Uncovered." And Gaeta adds a special message for Boing Boing tv viewers, who are already well accustomed to all things digital -- "For optimal viewing experience, see Speed Racer at a digital cinema or IMAX theater." He's not kidding, with a feature like this, analog projection just doesn't do the work justice. (Special thanks: John Gaeta; Andy and Larry Wachowski; and David Pescovitz)
