In recent months, I have watched the nation become more divided. To say America has moved beyond racism is to deny the truth. It was always there, just behind the face social decorum, lies the simmering caldron of fear and ignorance of those who look or believe differently than ourselves. The Democratic candidate selection campaign has demonstrated how little this country has progressed, not only in racial tolerance, but those of gender. The fact most Americans are willing to put aside their prejudices to support a good candidate, whether black or white, man or woman, there are still those who refuse to accept that change. Even though the numbers of true bigots are relatively small, they are the most vocal. They spread lies and deceptions which incite that hidden caldron to spill over its poison to the rational masses, -- clouding reason. Racial diversity is increasing and if we are to survive self destruction as a nation, we must come together, challenge the bigots with truth and embrace diversity.
