User generated video going HD
Today, Vimeo announced plans that their service will be distributing videos via HD format, as reported by the New York Post. The resolution will be 1280 pixels by 720 pixels, the standard for high-definition - four times (read: 4X) the typical resolution of 320×240 used by YouTube.
Here at Mefeedia, we have been tracking a HD video shows for some time. A good start are the 16 shows that are part of our HDTV channel. If you know of more HD video shows, please join the channel and add the show!
Show on TV vs. Show on the Web
As TV networks continue to lose audience share (5% decline during premiere work as reported in the New York Times today), the major switch of this audience - particularly the 18-34 year-old demographic - is looking to online video for their entertainment. As we have seen on mefeedia, this entertainment will come in the form of both YouTube-like “casual video” AND high quality web shows (quality in terms of talent and format). The difference between a Show on TV and a Show on the Web will truly become indistinguishable in the not too distant future (other than the size of their marketing budgets).
