Cycling.tv - another indie video site acquired
First, we had Wallstrip. Then Treehugger. Today, Cycling.tv has been acquired by JumpTV for around $5 million. The difference between Wallstrip and Cycling.tv? Cycling.tv has been around a while and actually has 18,000 paying subscribers. Not huge numbers, but certainly can be increased with the greater exposure brought to it by JumpTV.
JumpTV is focused on bring content together for the expat market. Their focus on sports content makes sense, as expats tend to want to see their favorite sports programs that they had at home and these are often not accessible through the normal TV outlets both domestically and internationally. Of course, Mefeedia aggregates tons of content for expats, with a much deeper range of programming : from sports to local events to locaized programming.
Interesting enough, Cycling.tv only recently made it to a video sharing site and created an RSS feed. How un-Web 2.0. See the feed here.See more in:acquisition, cycling, cyclingtv, jumptv
