Inflection point for online video makers - LonelyGirl and MySpaceTV Deal
This morning, the Lonelygirl15 crew made some waves and announced a deal with MySpace where MySpaceTV can host the finale of this season and has the rights to season 2. If you have been following the hit online show, they originally started hosting with YouTube, then switched to Revver, then back to YouTube, and now to MySpaceTV. The incredible part of this deal? That the team behind LonelyGirl gets to keep the rights and creative control over the content.
Why is this an inflection point?
It is the first big deal that proves out the model of being able to establish viewers on YouTube, then grabbing that audience and building interactivity on your own site, and finally selling the rights to portals — that compete with YouTube — fighting for the eyeballs to view the content. It is a model that we talked about in our State of the Vlogosphere, Vol 2 just yesterday.
David Spark has done a very good blog post about the model of interactive storytelling that made LonelyGirl so successful. It is certainly a model that we will see more of as that precious 18-34 year old age groups moves more and more from TV to online video.See more in:No Tags
