Second Life Tutorials - Installing and Using IShowU
I decided to take Michael Verdi’s advice and try out the IShowU (Mac Only) screencasting software he recommended.
It’s so great and easy to use! It took me about two minutes total to set up and test out — and decide to buy it for its modest $20 pricetag.
I knew from Michael Verdi’s instructions to use the “Apple Photo - Jpeg” Option.
If you’re going to reimport your footage into an editor, you’ll want to choose the highest quality setting for everything.
I changed the “Quality” under video from default to “Max,” and then clicked on “edit recording area” to choose what size window I wanted.
You can uncheck the “Record system audio” option to save on file size. (I haven’t experimented yet to see how well it records if there is sound in second life.)
The captures are numbered in sequence and stored to your desktop (like when you use shift/apple/4 to take a screengrab). (Sorry this is so mac-centric! I’m working on PC Alternatives!)

Configuring Your IShowU Compression Settings

Just click on the icon and select “Start Capture.”

Select “Stop Capture” when you’re done. It will create a “.mov” file on your desktop named “iShowU-Capture1.mov.”
