Videoblogging Week Day 5 - Second Life Tours - The Mefeedia Video Kiosk
As I mentioned earlier, David Meade has invited me and everyone else to hang out at his Second Life pad and watch videos — or grab the Mefeedia Video Kiosk object he wrote and throw it down on in their own in-world house.

Dave shot today’s tour clip, where he demonstrates hanging out in-world watching video, and explains a little about how the kiosk works.
David was returning back to his property after a long hiatus, and he was surprised to see unfamilar objects all over his turf. This kind of “object spam” appears to be rampant in Second Life. However, it was easy to send the objects back to their owners. You can also set your preferences so people can’t even leave objects around at all (but, of course, that’s not very friendly :)
Dave helped me look through the freeware available in world, by doing a search for “freebie” in the “places” tab of the search menu. We then tried out several freeware television screens.
Next, David configured his Kiosk object so that it could be “taken” and modified by others, once they accepted it into their inventory.
I practiced “taking” the kiosk object and verifying that it made it into my inventory, and then double clicking on it to verify that it had the right permissions. (It’s important to make sure that anyone can accept it and be able to modify it once they have received it, so that they can improve upon it and make that object available to others.
Then I tried selecting the object and dragging it from my inventory to the floor, which worked very easily. Alas, since I am not a landowner on Dave’s land, I couldn’t run the new object’s code. We’re in the process of figuring out how to adjust my permissions or buy some land for myself. I don’t yet know how to buy land, but if we can figure it out, Dave’s going to build a house and I’m going to rent a room in it for my lab from him.

To run your own feed through the Mefeedia Video Kiosk, type in commands through the chat interface (”/82 feed=url of feed”), or just use the little movie controller provided to stop/start and adjust the volume.

Remember to include those slurls when you upload and tag your Second Life videos!
I also have a bunch of Second Life Playlists I’ve been creating in all sorts of different categories. They are open for anyone to edit, so please add to them and create new ones!
