Videoblogging Week Day 4 - Second Life Tours - My First In-world Friend and Video Feed
David Meade invited me to his Second Life Estate (Teleport Now - http://slurl.com/secondlife/Gyeongju/106/166/73) to see his Mefeedia video stream projected on one of his walls.
I’ve been hanging out at Dave’s every night this week - so come on down and say hi!
David’s online character is “Ryce Broderick.” (I, by the way, am “Haley Bailey” — Friend me!) I added him as a friend by clicking “accept” in the dialog box that was presented to me upon logging in, after he sent me a friend request.

Accepting someone as a “Friend” means that, by default, you will be able to see each other’s locations online. (Although you can reconfigure that preference on a friend by friend basis after initially adding them, if you wish.)
Once I was logged in, I clicked on “Friends” in the lower menus, which caused a little “Friends” window to pop-up with a number of controls, enabling me to IM a friend or teleport to wherever they are, although to date, I still can only seem to teleport to Friends’ locations who have invited me.
You can also configure your preferences on a per-friend basis as to whether they can see you online, on their maps and whether or not they have permission to modify your objects. (Don’t worry if this doesn’t make sense yet, we’ll be talking a lot more in the days ahead about “friends” and “objects” and all the details surrounding them.)
Note that in the screengrab below, I have my both my “Friends” and “IM” windows open. You can chat back and forth just using the “chat” box along the bottom, without having your IM window open. However, be warned that your conversation doesn’t seem to be recorded in a place you can easily cut and paste from later. I’ve pretty much depended upon my IM archive in Second Life to go back over what little I’ve been able to learn from others in-world. So if you’re like me, and like to go back and reanalyze your conversations to see what you’ve learned, be sure to open up that IM window early on. (Remember to cut and paste before you quit out of the program, too, unless you’re sure your logging is enabled, which I haven’t found out how to do yet.)
Open “Friends” and “IM” windows within Second Life.
Next, I was ready to start watching some video. I entered “/82 feed=http://mefeedia.com/tags/videobloggingweek2007/rss2.xml” — the feed for our Videoblogging Week 2007 page. (More details about the Mefeedia Video Kiosk’s commands in tomorrow’s post.)
The first video was a review of Twitter by mrtopf.
