Why are we different?
I made some changes to the homepage (when you’re logged out) to explain why Mefeedia is different. Which made me think of some more. I really feel we are. But why? Let’s see:
- We don’t host. Other places like Odeo, podshow and such do hosting and directory. How can they not promote their own shows over the ones of the competition? It’s an inherent conflict of interest, and it means they can never be an independent directory.
- We do video and audio. Mefeedia started as a videoblog directory, because that’s the culture we come from (and helped create). But I like to listen to audio podcasts too, so we added them in. We don’t believe there is a real difference.
- We share the love. Incredibly, most other directories seem to do their best to keep people on their site, instead of sending them to the site of the people they work for (imho), the videobloggers and podcasters. On mefeedia, we *always* add a link to the site, and to the RSS feed. What’s more, we don’t republish RSS feeds (something that gets me really going when I see sites doing it. I think it’s theft.)
I think those are the main ones, but there are more things that make us different. You tell me :)

I agree with the comment that it is a conflict of interest for a directory to promote its own shows. Think of how Podcast Alley was the main directory. Once podshow bought them it went out of style (itunes helped) but Chris McIntyre would probably be a very rich man if he cultivated podcast alley instead of selling to podshow. Now podcast alley isnt even mentioned. In the past every show would say- vote for me on podcast alley. I havent heard that in a long time. I did see Chris McIntyre lugging boxes of podshow T-shirts at the expo though.
I was also a huge fan of the daily source code in the past. Adam against the establishment, then quit your day job , then the second coming of second life, now it is one long podshow commercial.
I applaud you for being a directory. thanks
