SEOmoz Blog | The videoblog industry and SEO - Part 4: Wish list
“I think we are at a turning point where quality will have a bolder importance than quantity for this industry. With 4 millions (and skyrocketting) videos, organization becomes a key factor. Let’s say you sit down tonite and start listening to Youtube videos, and that you consider they are 4minutes average, you’re there for 16 000 000 minutes… That’s more than 11 000 days non stop. Can you handle that? I think we need quality over quantity now. We need more editors.”
It’s pretty clear: we need editors. And we need to build tools that make it easier to be an editor. We’re coming out with some stuff soon, and more later, that’ll help that happen.
There is so much video being made, and more importantly, video is such an attention-hog, that the more help you get with deciding where to spend the little tim you have, the better. With audio, you can still do something else while listening… and it’s usually ok to kind of not listen for a few minutes. With video, it’s harder. And as opposed to text, you can’t quickly skim it to decide wether you want to spend your time on this particular item. So the more metadata, the more ways of deciding what to watch, the better.
